What was your reaction and thoughts of Mike Tyson's biting Evander's ear 26 years ago in 1997?

It was claimed Holyfield was head butting Tyson continuously over and over in the match without the referee doing anything about it so Tyson took it upon himself to bite Evander in the ear twice and get disqualified or it was Tyson losing the fight didn’t have anything left looking for a way out, what are your opinions about this?

I don't think Tyson should have bitten him. Even if Holyfield was head butting him, 2 wrongs don't make a right. That's unsportsman like conduct, uncalled for & unprofessional by either/both. If Holyfield was wrong, Tyson should have taken the high road & pointed it out to the ref to keep an eye out for it. Instead, he acted like an animal & got disqualified. On the other side of the coin, people pay big $ to see Tyson fight & get mad when it's over quickly. Anyone that knows about his fights-Mije is a beast & his fights don't seem to last very long, so why be mad? You the dummy that paid $$$ knowing this.🙄

Before I comment on whether it was right or not... That was a good fight for how long it lasted.. Intense.. 2 high level fighters going at it for real!

That said.. I don't think it was right.. I think Mike was being a sore loser there.. I didn't see Evander head butt him, but he could have since everything was happening pretty fast.. I just think Mike didn't wanna lose.. Evander was getting in on him, although Mike was dodging pretty good as well..

Hey man I saw that fight called down the middle and what it was bruh… that was an intense fight like you said and was a good fight apart from the first fight they had. If they were headbutting like it was claimed on both videos with Tyson and his co manager stating it, it’s part of the game either way and biting is not the answer for that kind of situation. He was being a sore loser and tried to find a way out around this time, Tyson was a headhunter trying to score a knockout any way possible and the end of that match was crazy with everybody even the police coming in the ring to separate Tyson and Holyfield but mannnn Tyson bit that mf off good.

Holyfield was too big and tall for him, had the reach, and wasn’t intimidated or scared of him. That’s why Tyson bit him out of clear frustration. Mike should have thrown hands more aggressively in the fight not used his teeth. People felt Tyson deserved to have been banned from boxing for life from doing that. I can imagine people were pissed paid that good money to see the fight happened as it did who probably betted too

Yeah, I think Mike was getting frustrated because he was might lose again.. He saw that Evander was piecing him up, and didn't like it. He probably promised his kids he would win.. LOL.. I mean he mentioned his career, which I get, you don't want two loses to the same guy, but he was gonna walk away with a big pay check either way.. Another loss would have hurt him, but he could have bounced back. Or continued fighting and dodging like he was doing.. Even if he had the length disadvantage..

Right lol it was even Mike was doing drugs at the time which kinda contributed to him doing that and his life spiraling out of control. Head butting is hard to see and prove that it was even going on because when you are in close it can be easily accidental that's why one must use different strategy to avoid closeness, especially the shorter boxers who are potentially more proned to being head butted. Teddy Atlas who trained and knows Tyson better than anyone said that was Tyson's escape before Holyfield could knock him out which Holyfield was getting close to doing. Either way a big payday afterwards too and let’s be real Tyson wasn’t the same like he was in the 80s after getting out of prison.

For sure man, I bet Tyson was super frustrated thinking he was gonna catch an L to Holyfield again. Probably extra pressure feeling like he had to win it for his kids too. And you KNOW his ego couldn't handle losing to the same dude twice. But like you said, even if he did lose he still got paid huge money just for showing up. Another loss wouldn't have ended his career or anything. Just meant he'd have to work a bit harder to get a W next time. But I get it in the moment, when you're actually in there fighting, emotions are running high. Dude probably just snapped seeing Holyfield beating him. Still super messed up to bite the guy though lol. Definitely ruined his rep after that. But I can understand where the frustration was coming from at least, even if he took it way too far.

Yeah exactly l, that's what did him in.. He could've won, but even he if lost, he could've lost honorably and had a good fight.. But yeah it was probably the drugs he was on that made him act so impulsive like that..

I'm watching the fight on YouTube now. Scrutinized it. Pausing, rewinding & paying very close attention to both warriors-- never once saw Holyfield head butt Tyson. Saw Holyfield bring his head down & lean into Tyson-almost having the top of his head on Tyson's chin, but no head butts. I feel once Holyfield popped Tysons eyebrow open like you said, Tyson must have felt Holyfield had the upper hand, so he bit him (twice) to try to level the playing field

@MsBell2018 Exactly, I didn't see any head butts, and in fact Holyfield kept pushing him away.. I think that's exactly what Mike wanted to do, even the play field.. That was was sharp, quick bite though.. Geez..

I can pinpoint it exactly after watching the whole fight on YouTube a little bit ago:
End of 1st round, Holyfield hit Tyson in the right brow. No cut.
2nd round with 2:25 left in the round, Holyfield had Tyson backed onto the ropes, bent his head down & to his right & came up with his left hand & popped Tyson's right eyebrow busting it open. The ref was right there & broke them up. Tyson then said something about his eyebrow being busted & the announcer said it must have been due to a head butt, but the video clearly shows Holyfield popped him with his left glove. This is the 1st time I've seen the fight & I watched the end of the 1st round to the bite point several times just to be fair & there's no doubt in my mind. Tyson got hit not head butted & Holyfield was getting the upper hand, so Tyson bit his ass to get back at him. How you forget your mouthpiece? He did that as revenge.

I thought it was exciting. He was in for a run for his money I knew it everybody thought that Tyson was going to go through him within four rounds back then they all thought he was shot Holyfield, due to the Riddick bowe matches

Yeah man, everyone thought Holyfield was washed up after those Bowe fights. No way anyone saw him giving Tyson such a fight. You could tell Holyfield had been training his butt off and wasn't gonna go down easy. Dude was in killer shape and taking it right to Tyson. I bet nobody expected Evander to take those shots from Mike and just keep coming. It must’ve really had others doubting everyone who wrote Holyfield off. When that fight was happening it felt like anything could go down. Such an exciting fight while it lasted for sure. Props to Holyfield for proving everyone wrong and showing he still had so much left in the tank.

I watched the video of the fight several times back to back focusing each time on different t things & each fighter. I didn't see Holyfield head butting Tyson. I did see Holyfield hit him on the right eyebrow & bust it open. Tyson bit him right after that happened. Maybe Tyaon felt he was losing ground & made a snap decision in frustration & anger?

@Iron_Man At what point? I see Holyfield put his head down a lot, but not smash into him/head butt. Are you saying Tysons eyebrow cut was due to a head butt? If so, I politely disagree & offer you to look at the end of the 1st round where Holyfield clearly tagged Tyson's right eyebrow, but it didn't bust open. Please continue to watch the 2nd round around the 2:30 minutes left in the round mark. Holyfield gets Tyson on the ropes & reaches up with his left glove & tags Tyson's right eyebrow causing it to bust open at 2:25 minutes left. The ref breaks them apart & that's when Tyson mentioned his eyebrow & the announcer makes the comment about possibly being a head clash. Tyson bit him right after.
