The world doesn't revolve around "America". Agree?

Yesterday I couldn't find a 'MyTake' I posted under the new 'Outer Space' category, and the reason may have been because, as some here suggested, the whole thing was just "an April Fools Day joke".

Well, it's now the third of April, yesterday was the second, not the first, but I guess that those who run GAG don't know about time zones and that the Earth isn't flat, and that most of us actually do NOT live in the Western Hemisphere, because... you know, the internet is global. Other exotic places like Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Japan exist as well.

Obviously it does not ENTIRELY revolve around the US, that's absolutely true, and SHOULD be true. But it's also true that the US is the world leader in many, many things, and as such, the world DOES revolve around the US to some extent. For example, the US dollar is the official currency of MANY different countries, and many others use currency that is directly tied to the value of the US dollar. That is one quite significant way that the world revolves around the US. Another is the US military, which could likely defeat (in a strictly non-nuclear confrontation) every other military on Earth combined. And there are a number of other examples.

So, it's true to some extent, but not true in the entirety.

Yes. That's an illusion many people raised under "American exceptionalism" still hang on to. I was following the shrill right-wing coverage of the Taylor Swift-Superbowl "psy-ops", where moderators and commentators gargled and blathered about it being "the most important sports event of the wooorld", how "the whole wooorld is watching it", etc etc. WTF? I have known here in 25 years exactly one guy who was interested in American Football. I have never heard anyone during company lunch breaks etc discussing an American Football game, ever. I don't even know, if any TV channel here broadcasts American Football.

It doesn't, but unfortunately the West takes it's lead from the USA.

Sadly, since they've got a history of getting into affairs that genuinely impact the world behind everyone else:

WW1 was 1914-1918 except for the USA who only joined in in 1916

WW2 was 1939-1945 except for the USA who only joined in in 1941

Slavery was abolished across the British Empire in 1834. Europe followed suit but the USA felt it necessary to have a civil war over the matter until abolition in 1865.

Yet today the West wants to follow America? I don't get it.
