Twenty-year-old Shrek 2, which came up with $1.4m from 1,512 theaters, for a per-screen average of $962
Spider-Man's re-release outperformed Shrek 2 on Monday, earning the highest per-theater average of any film currently in theaters. The 2002 Spider-Man film was a cultural touchstone, grossing over $400 million domestically, making it the second-biggest in the live-action series.
$1.4 million for Shrek 2 after 20 years? That's seriously impressive. And with over 1,500 theaters showing it, to average almost a grand per screen, that's insane. No wonder it was still a sell out.
But dude, the original Spiderman doing even better? That's just nuts. To have the highest per-theater average of any movie right now, that's huge. Especially since some of those theaters are probably huge stadium style screens now too! Shows how huge that movie still is. I mean it made over $400 million back in 2002, it basically started the whole superhero craze. Such an iconic film.

I'm not a big movie-goer, but looking through lists of recently movies I can say I have no interest in seeing any of them. I'll probably go see the new Deadpool movie when it releases, though.
