1 yIf a man:
- is 100% independent i. e. pays his bills, his rent, his mortgage
- works a legitimate job and isn’t a drug dealer or some other crap
- is law abiding and generally respectful
then you have ZERO I do mean absolutely zero right to judge him. Period.

4.7K opinions shared on Other topic. That depends on the man and his circumstances. A few men can earn a million dollars a month without really doing any work (because they have investments that they either earned or inherited), but the vast majority of men have to work a job or business in order to make money, and different men have different potential.
Ideally, a man would make enough money to live on his own, pay his bills, and have enough left over to invest some and have a small entertainment budget. But not that many men under 30 can do this - more entry level career jobs don't usually pay well enough, and they need to have a few years to climb the ladder. Maybe half of men can get to this point by 30 - and many of them are going to be living a modest lifestyle. By 35, probably 2/3 have gotten there. Obviously the amount is going to depend on his career and his location - many locations pay more, but the cost of living is higher so in most cases, the higher number of his salary doesn't mean a higher lifestyle.
Ultimately, a man should work hard and should always be learning, with an eye towards improving his situation and being prepared to take advantage of any opportunities that come along. The details will differ, but this philosophy will predict success over time.16 Reply- 1 y
EVERYBODY should work to live, not live to work; too often the latter occurs in the USA.
- 1 y
While I agree that that is ideal, many people simply don't have that luxury - they have to work long hours to survive.
Others COULD work to live, but it would require some discipline (not spending money on everything you want all the time) and often stepping down in lifestyle - and many simply won't do that. - 1 y
Dr. King probably envisioned the present gig economy when , a couple of years before his assassination, he argued for a Universal Basic Income (UBI) which would eliminate poverty by creating an income floor below which no American could fall and which would be far above subsistence level.
- 1 y
@handsomelad70 Absolutely not. Everyone (except for the small percentage of truly disabled) should be earning their own way through life, not taking from the hard work of others. Poverty is an excellent motivator to work hard, and you'll find that the vast majority of crime is committed by those who choose not to work (or even prepare themselves to work). People who are idle spend way too much time getting into trouble, while people who earn their own money tend to respect the hard work and property rights of others, because they value their own property and how hard they had to work to earn it.
Socialism does not work and has never worked, because the ONLY way it can work is to bring EVERYONE down to the level of the lowest person, instead of bringing people UP. That's exactly how it has played out every single time it's ever been tried. - 1 y
Typical rightist idiocy, which combines lack of compassion for the oppressed/typically othered and prostration towards the wealthy exploiters. As Dr. King duly noted, the twenty-six previous civilizations with cataclysmic disparities between the overlords and everyone else collapesed, which America will do by 2035 without MASSIVE shifts in the sort of thinking you espouse. Your "philosophy" is the natural conclusion of a "mis-education" system which teaches peopke to be mindless, obedient sheep towards the bosses and to hate the unfortunates slightly less fortunate. Pres. Lyndon B. Johnson explained this circa 1965 when he said the poor whites stupidly allow their exploiters to pick their pockets by using racism to divide them from the black poor, and nearly three generations, it seems to be ready to work again as most whites (60-65 percent of white boys) will robotically cast their Presidential ballot for a convicted rapist, swindler, grifter and all-around POS because he echoes their prejudices. Incidetally, plent of poor folk work multiple jobs (the "gig" economy) but fail to leave poverty due to a system where CEOs pay LESS in taxes despite averaging 312 times their employees' wages. Finally,"socialism" works in Scandinavia, where rich folk still thrive, but others are not impoverished due to higher taxes on the fortunate daughters and sons. So how 'bout learning some empathy for the less-fortunate and quit being another soulless acolyte of your users, boyo.

@handsomelad70 Scandinavia may have socialized health care (which they were able to have as a wealthy mono-culture of responsible, hardworking people, but has been extremely strained since they started allowing mass immigration), but they are very much capitalist countries. You cannot compare a small, wealthy mono-culture country like Sweden, Norway, etc. with the US, which has had large-scale continuous immigration for generations and many competing and incompatible cultures.
And you mentioned LBJ and his Great Society - the single most corrosive program ever passed in the US. Prior to the Great Society, blacks and Latinos in the US were on the rise and 86% of black households were made up of a married couple. After the Great Society, which literally allowed women to replace the man in the household with a government check, society as a whole has largely collapsed. I think YOU are the one who are being fooled.
There could be discussions about C-Suite pay caps - especially for non-founders, but I will never support socialist programs that steal money from the hard-working to give it to the non-working for free. That's called SLAVERY. But if you'd like to give YOUR money to the non-working, I won't stop you.
1 ySubmission is far more important than salary. Imagine a collar around his neck, not just a symbol but a contract of submission, dictating how much he earns based on tasks completed – from fetching groceries in a lewd outfit to performing a public display of self-spanking. The more he dedicates himself to the art of servitude, the more his wallet swells. But oh, the thrill of withholding, making him earn every penny through acts of degradation, like simulated urine swallowing or anal dilation exercises.
10 Reply871 opinions shared on Other topic. I'm old school traditional. But I also think it's up to the guy. If he wants to have a wife he should be able to provide for her. Same for if he wants kids. If he just wants to be single that's fine too. It also depends on where he chooses to live. If he lives in a place where he can do all of that on $5/week, who am I to judge? If he lives in a place where he needs $2k/week and he only makes $500 that's a problem.
But, I don't think guys sit around thinking about these numbers like this. Similar to how a woman has a biological clock, a man has a financial clock where he just 'knows' when things are right. Some guys ignore that tho... and try to have everything while broke.
10 ReplyIt depends where you live. Where I used to live at least 45-50,000, where I am now it would be more. To me the goal is for us both to be able to live comfortably and not stress about money. The plus side about both making more too is if one person loses their job the other can make it work until the other replaces theirs

1 yDepends where he is. Upstate North Dakota and LA don't have the same cost of living as Ohio or rural Alabama. These questions are so fundamentally flawed the only way that this could be asked is if it were some tiktok "influencer" with no concept of what money means.

1 ythe question has 2 meanings. literaly, minimum for man should/is same as any minimum wage same as lady.
but maybe you mean datable.
a guy SHOULD earn MINIMUM 48,000 or more annually to be datable.
less she will "notice my clothes
wrinkle her nose".

1 yImpossible to answer objectively such a question with a figure. A monthly salary depends on different factors: the country, the way of living, the level of comfort aimed at, how much life in general costs in that particular country, etc. I think that one may accept the idea of a salary allowing to live in a reasonable comfortable way to be correct.
To much money spoils people, while not enough degrades.
10 Reply12.8K opinions shared on Other topic. It depends where you live. I live in a place that is very expensive to live in. If i said that you need 100K to live there between the high cost of housing and the high taxes not to mention how much more things needed to live has increase over the last 3 years I would not be lying

Anyway, he should earn enough to support himself and, if he has a family and a stay-at-home wife, her and the children. That amount varies wildly depending upon lifestyle and location. In some places $100K can allow one to live very comfortably. In others, he'll need a co-signer for an apartment.10 Reply - 2.6K opinions shared on Other topic.

1 yIt depends so much on where you live. I wound up in Northern CA near SF and 20k a month is about what the minimum is for a real life out here. Before that I lived in places where that would have been plenty
10 Reply 1.7K opinions shared on Other topic. One person told me that salary should be set according to the cost of the worst mistake he or she can make. Building structure engineers should be paid a lot. Most hangers on at Silicon Valley should earn chump change. Why Elon fired them.

@strateguy632 - I didn't see the question so much as a 'political' thing.
To me it's not about ''minimum wages'', but rather about reasonable expectations with own initiative (or motivation) to get there.

It would depend on the job, the hours put in, and what the local economy is like.

Anonymous(36-45)1 yCompletely unrealistic. The average male salary for men between the ages of 20 and 30 is 29k annually. For all ages 240k annually is less than 0.01% of men. If you're aiming that high you will be alone forever.
10 Reply12.8K opinions shared on Other topic. It depends on where you live but 240K would be a very nice income.

11 Reply- 1 y
So basically, if he is not able to save that much with a lifestyle after getting married (whatever their new married lifestyle will be), he is not ready for marriage. This is how we were brought up in our culture. Be educated, get a good job and settle down, and THEN think about getting married. On the flipside, your proposal is more likely to be turned down by the girl's family if you are not seen as financially sound.
