  Maurizio Cattelan’s “Comedian” is a tongue-in-cheek commentary on how the prestigious art world is prone to its very obvious faults, such as offering a high price for a rotting banana that only cost the artist 30 cents to purchase. He’s also done a golden toilet entitled “America.” The point of the art isn’t that it’s stupid, the point is that art collectors are rich assholes completely out of touch with society that they would pay 9 million dollars for a piece of plaster with a rotting banana taped to it. The price tag alongside the art piece completes the piece and the message he wanted to send.
