Have you ever been frightened to fart when it's cold?

Question

We all know that when it's chilly, you can see your breath thanks to the water vapour within hitting the cold air. But what about letting rip out the other end? Do you ever fear the visible fart cloud?

That is a great question glad you asked. The lungs are a specialized environment where the air is purposefully humidified. The relatively high water content aerosolized is what is visible on cold dry air. The lower intestines is a very different environment. With different bases and the environment although warm is actually water conserving. So the relative humidity is much lower than exhaled breath. Plus the moisture is somewhat extracted by the material keeping your bottom covered. Although not impossible it is highly unlikely for flatus to be visible unless you were butt naked in extremely cold dry temperatures. And even then it would not be as noticable. Hope that helps.

There's a saying in Germany (my mistake, a word) "furztrocken". It means "dry as a fart".

I remember a children's science show performing an experiment to see if it's true. They fed a staffer a lot of beans and put him in a walk-in freezer.

Indeed, his fart was dry; there was no cloud.

I bet that won't crop up in duolingo!

I’m so confident that it makes people feel uncomfortable around me because they know I’m not controlled by any fear or reputation concern. But I’m Chinese and have amazing gut bacteria and fart less than 98% of people and it is near silent when it happens.

lol to the imagery of a visible fart. I do not fear that but I am mindful if the air is still and it is cold out (especially very cold) as that is when a fart seems to linger longer and stronger :)
