Yes, there is. I call it half-assing things. There's a clear difference between someone who puts in the bare minimum effort and someone who puts in extra effort even towards menial tasks. Driven people are the opposite of lazy people and these traits show in more than one area of their lives.

As that article says, the term laziness is lazy because it's just a superficial (and convenient) way to look at people's mind. And as such, like anything psychology based, it can't resist to a closer analysis

Sure there is. It's the same as those who procrastinate. You just don't feel like doing something so you sit around snacking and watching TV? That's laziness. I'm kinda bad about this myself when it comes to certain things, so I speak from experience.

Probably for some but I’m lazy at times because I need to recharge and meditate for that burst of energy to come back and finish tasks, which I prioritize to get done at a certain time. unless I’m at work.. I’m in work mode..

okay, yes there are barriers to performance. When I was in college I was constantly stressed about paying tuition. I worked a crappy part time job and worked as many hours as I could. I worked so much it was hard to find the time to study. My college roommate had a full scholarship and I used to have to drag him out of bed so we would go to our 8 o clock biology class. If I didn;t do that he would have just slept. He was lazy and there was no excuse for it.

It's a symptom of depression and feeling the situation is hopeless. It can also arise from the feeling the reward doesn't justify the effort.

Of course it does. There are many times I just can't be bothered to do things. I wouldn't object if someone did them for me.

When I don’t feel like doing anything, I guess that’s laziness

Yeah. If you have something you need to do but refuse because you don't feel like doing anything, that's laziness.

actually, phrased like this, you're describing a depressive state, not laziness lol

And part of a depressive state is laziness. Part of it. So no what I described is laziness.

@Agape93 Well, no. It is called "psychomotor slowing".

"Psychomotor retardation, also known as psychomotor impairment, is a slowing of mental and physical activity. It can manifest as a visible slowing of physical and emotional reactions, including speech and affect."

That isn't the same as laziness

It is the thing that occurs that results in the behavior that you call laziness.

Not quite. The behavior I mentioned, is a choice for inaction, not as a result from a psychological issue.

      What motivates the choice?

Simply not wanting to do what they're supposed to. If I'm supposed to salt my porch before it snows, and I put it off because I don't feel like doing it, that's just a choice, it's not a psychological issue.
