I retired in 2010 and still drove quite a bit in my personal car. But, about 5 years ago I started driving way less.
I bought a fully loaded 2010 Toyota Rav4 Limited, 6 cyl, 4WD with 83k, original miles in 2020. I have only put 35k on it since then.
My wife and I have gone on several few trips, but I often go weeks without driving any further than my mail box, which is just over 1 mile round trip (my driveway is 0.4 miles).
We live in a rural area and are around 20 miles from cities.
I drive around 30 miles one way to the eye doctor every few months. I run occasional errands and I drive when we go out to eat. But my wife works in town four days a week, so she does the grocery shopping and errands while there.
I often go a month without filling my tank.00 Reply

1.1K opinions shared on Other topic. Every day but not much. It has 41k km in over 4 years. Selling it now where the price is 30-40% of new car but it practically still smells inside like a new car with this low millage wouldn't be really smart.

@Bricealan haha breath test when pulled at 4am, tired and hungry and cold. Later I did test at station and was NOT over the limit but they said tough. Too late as I failed the chances before.
I told them multiple times I was cold and effecting my ability to test.
I requested my cctv footage to show in court but they first said that they need 30 days to provide it but set court in 25 days. Court denied an adjournment.
Next the police said they can't provide the footage for an open case.
Er... so tell how this works. I can't secure the EVIDENCE that would exonerate me for court because of court?
So now courts finished I've requested again. I may go back to court to contest the charge.
But what a UK law system to deny access to evidence ugh - 20 d
@Bricealan but if they ask for evidence from doctor?
- 19 d
@Bricealan well technically I wasn't even DUI as my result was under the limit when I finally got a result.
But the punishment is for not complying. But I did comply.
However to get a solicitor to fight my corner would cost me over ยฃ6000 which is much more than the cost of sucking up the punishment and no guarantee of no punishment anyways if they lose.

20 dEvery day I drive since 2009 and quite more since 2020 when we started caring for foster kids. I'm tired but only I can legally do it and safely in my family. I can't remember the last time I was a passenger for 30 minutes, plus it definitely beats walking 😅.

18 dThese days, I work from home a lot. When I travel to an office, most of it is on a train other than a 13 mile drive to the train station. So my overall car use is down to about 5,000 miles or 8,000 km per year. And I'm loving not being on the roads here!
00 Reply Several times a day. Professional reasons, shopping and a teenage daughter all contribute to this. I don't exactly live in a remote area, but public transport is not an option when time is short.
I reckon I use the car six days a week and put in some 15,000 km / 9,000 miles a year.

19 dNow that I am retired, I don't drive my car much at all. When my wife and I go out, we take her car. Mine sits parked a lot, maybe 2000 miles (~3000 km) per year. When I was working, I almost always lived within a 30-minute drive (home-to-work), and averaged around 7000 miles (~10,000 km) per year.
