They go through much more than a newer car does. I have friends who have older cars and it keeps breaking down far more than a newer car does. It's not worth it.
Last Summer I saw my wife's 1991 Country Squire station wagon. I knew it was her's because it still had the bumper stickers on it. It actually still looked good too.

2000 or older. That's 25 years ago. That's pretty old for a car in my opinion.

If it's not foreign like a Toyota or Honda then I wouldn't trust getting a car older than 2001

2000 is where even moderate maintenance is likely to exceed replacement value
That's why you buy something older to replace it
Yeah you either buy somewhat newer to repeat the process or buy a classic and know how to maintain it
