They didn't have to. I discovered this at a very young age.

They didn't even know what 'online' is.
But I figured it out on my own soon after my first Nigerian scam... which actually arrived by mail and as a letter.
For the younger ones on here: a "letter" was kind of an email, but printed on real paper with a type writer (an ancient instrument that prints letters without the need to tap, finger-smear a scren, or click)
