Is it just me or do people have no common courtesy?

Seriously, don't these people know anything about respect? Like today I held the door for some random person and not even a simple thank you or acknowledgment that I even exist! Someone does something nice for you, you show appreciation...it's not rocket science. How about when someone sneezes and and you say "bless you" and you never get your simple "thank you"? C'mon people where are your manners?

I agree completely. This summer we were on a plane to go to Florida, someone sneezed, my dad and I were the ONLY ones on the whole plane who said Bless You, and the person said "THANK YOU ONLY PEOPLE WHO SAID BLESS YOU." and then I went to the mall yesterday and some guy slammed a door in my face entering the mall, and I'm like "thanks for your damn common courtesy, JESUS-_-" and he just gave me a nasty look. How hard is it to open/keep the door open for someone? But then again I live in NY and people here are so rude and mean...

Well everyone has a different perception of how to live life but it doesn't mean everyone would agree on it. I think the majority, including myself, would agree that common courtesy is necessary. But there are days when I'm in such a bad mood that I'm not as polite. I need to stop doing that. I think some people are just really having a bad day and for others it's just in their nature to be rude.

At my uni, when you said hi to people it's not uncommon for someone to look you in the eye and not answer back. Did their parents ever taught them manners ?

People still do, but it doesn't seem to be as important. The other day when I was at work, my manager was helping a customer. Some lady just walked right up to him, didn't even bother to say "excuse me" or ask anyone else for help, and just started griping about a pair of shoes her husband had bought.

If people have no common courtesy, you should still continue to do nice things.

And...some people just never learned courtesy or is too shy to say a simple thank you.

Lol. I live in Texas. Most that I know have common courtesy. I hold doors open and smile warmly and say 'Bless you'. It's only occasionally that the courtesy isn't reciprocated...and I just dismiss it after a quick backward glare with a subtle hint of "Eff you too then ahole."

You are right I believe that there is a general lack of respeft and xommo courtesy. I hold doors open all thw tine even if nbody is behind me. Also when I walk out behind peole heu don't notoxe me qalkjng out rihht behind them. They don't hokd the door or even look. Its redixulous

What really pisses me off is when cars drive too close to pedestrians in the cross walk. These cars that swipe right by people are not going to get anywhere faster this way. Seriously what is the most it could slow somebody down? A FEW seconds.

Also when I get in line at grocery store there are some people that will bump into me for no reason. YES I know you are behind me but ramming your grocery cart into my ass is not going to get you through the line faster.

Generally speaking, people are too focused on their own drama to acknowledge there are other people in the world, haha!

Honestly though, what you're talking about doesn't occur that much here. Most of the time, people say thank you and hold doors and are generally pretty polite.

You're living in a world where there's no common sense either. Common courtesy flew out the window and landed on a massive pile of sh*t a long time ago. Some people still have some amount of common courtesy but you can't expect that from everyone.

I agree completely with you! As I walk into school, I usually hold to door for people who are close behind me. Some of them say thank you...others just ignore me.

i don't like when people hold doors for me. there is no need. I have hands too. some people are like that. they come from a different culture where courtesy isn't as mainstream as in US.

I agree. Especially people at my school. Their all crazy/rude, and always getting into fights. Not to mention NOBODY has any manners whatsoever.
