What does it mean when a guy taps you on the shoulder?

There's this guy at school and he's so popular and he's in a few of my classes. Whilst I was sewing, he tapped me on my left shoulder. I looked to my left to see he wasn't there so I looked to my right and he was at my level, looking ahead (not at me). I just said "hi" and then he just did this smirk/smile thing and walked away. What does this mean? he's tapped my shoulder a few other times before but I said nothing.

If he's tried to engage you in conversation after tapping you on the shoulder, I'd say he probably interested but if he's not trying to talk to you then it's probably just some dumb goofy thing he does and probably does to other people too.

He's jokingly flirting. It doesn't have to mean anything. The only thing you can affirm from this is that it's okay to talk to him.
