Not close with him at all, just friendly with him. He never tapped me before so just found it odd. He did it twice throughout the day.

I personally don't touch most folks, especially women, if I'm not at least close to them by some margin. But more importantly you need to think of how you feel about it. Do you mind being touched on the shoulder or do you want him to stop? If you like it, try touching him on the shoulder when you say hi. If you don't, then set some boundaries. People are all different with their touch barriers. Some folks can't read the mood, some can.
