If a guy refers to a girl as 'lady friend' - what does that mean?

Hi Guys.

Today a girl in my class asked a guy in my class if he had seen his 'lady friend' last night. he answered 'perhaps' with a smirk on his face.

English is not my first language, so what does that mean?

Is this simply a girlfriend he is in a relationship with? He never posted anything about her on Facebook, no pictures and no relationship status or anything. and he is Facebook addicted, on it 24/7.

Or do men refer to a girl they are seeing as a lady friend first, before they fully commit?

the thing is he never said lady friend. the girl asked about his lady friend. but he says he is seeing someone, but is still single..

It depends on how the guy said it. It generally means either:

- a female friend (no sex involved), or

- a girl he's having sex with, but isn't in a relationship with (i.e., FWB/fvck buddy)

If they were in a relationship, he would have said "girlfriend".

You can usually tell which of the two he meant by how he said the words. If he emphasized "lady friend", then he's banging her. If not, they are just friends.

Well, I can't speak for every dude in the world, but when I use the term lady friend, I mean a female that's a friend

I think it was a girl he was secretly having sex with. Lady friend usually means a friend who's a girl with no sex involved, but the fact that he smirked and said that perhaps he has seen her during the night kinda makes me think that it's someone he's secretly having a relationship with.

I think it means both of them are having sex without being in a relationship. I have never heard of a guy refer to his girlfriend as a lady friend before.

I think it means a friend who happens to be lady, but definitely not a girlfriend.

When I hear lady friend, it means either a "hook-up" or a girl who isn't really his "girlfriend". More or less the NSA or non-relationship type of term.
