Annual Boys Boxer Run? Why is this Accpetable for Guys, but Not Girls? High School?

Do girls need more privacy then boys? So at my high school it's an annual tradition at the end of the school year for the graduating senior boys to do a 'boxer run' through the school. Where essentially the graduating boys strip to just their boxers or briefs and run through the school, the girls cheer them on and at the end squirt them with water guns.

Every year the guys strip down to their boxers/briefs, while the girls remain fully clothed and cheer them on. I attached two videos of this years event, In the video you can see the boys running in their boxers while the clothed girls cheer and at the end squirt the boys with water guns.:

I can't even imagine girls stripping to their underwear and boys cheering as they run and shooting girls with water...nor do I think the parents or school officials would allow it. Yet it's perfectly fine for the boys to strip to their boxers or briefs and run around in front of clothed 14-18 year old girls?

Why? Do teen girls need more privacy with their bodies then teen boys? What do you think about this tradition? Do you agree that it's a fine/fun tradition for the boys to strip to their underwear and run while the girls stay clothed and watch or no?

lol It looks like a pretty fun tradition. Yes girls need more privacy, they're more modest, especially at that age. Guys on the other hand don't care about stripping down in front of others. And plus, if the girls stripped they would be seen in a sexual way or as sex objects...whereas the guys are seen as comical/funny. I have to admit, it's one thing to have a bunch of teen boys in their boxers in front of girls...that's seen by everyone as funny...but having the opposite wouldn't really be appropriate.

Plus, girls, even 14 year old girls, know that boys wear boxers or briefs...why does it matter if she sees her male classmates in their underwear? I mean yeah she'll know which guy prefers what kind of underwear...but that's about it. It's a harmless fun tradition.

So yeah I would say having the boys strip and run is fine...but the girls, especially at that age, should be watching/cheering only, not participating.

Obviously, this is a double-standard. No one is offended that guys are asked to do this, but many would be offended if girls were.

Life is full of double-standards, though. Men and women ARE different, and have different needs and wants and insecurities, and double-standards reflect that. Some people who think "equality" means "exactly the same" will get bent out of shape about it, but most double-standards exist for good reason.

Yes, some double-standards are in men's favor, but some, like this one, are in women's favor. That's okay; on the whole, they balance out.

Yes, I'm fine with it, and yes, I'd run with them if that was my school's tradition.

"Fair" isn't always RIGHT. I don't think it's "fair" that only the boys do this, but it's still probably the right decision. I don't think a tradition needs to be discontinued just for political correctness.

Thanks. Yeah I think it probably is the right decision as well to have the guys strip to boxers and run with the girls watching. With something like this I say to myself if I had a son and daughter...how would I feel? And honestly I don't think I would really mind if my son told me he was running around the school in just his boxers...I'd probably laugh. But there's definitely no way at all I would ever want my daughter to strip in the middle of the school...I would find that inappropriate.

It's an odd tradition, but I kinda wish my high school had it. There were plenty of guys I would have loved to have seen running around in their underwear. Seems like one of those societal stereotypes. I mean, are they forced to do it? If it were voluntary, I'm sure at least some of the girls would do it. But if you forced the girls to do it, there would be some kind of outcry over how they're being objectified.

lol Nothing wrong with a little eye candy for us girls right!? :) Of course it's voluntary, but it;s always been tradition that just the guys strip to their boxers/briefs and the girl's always stay fully clothed and cheer the guys on. At my school the entire senior class puts on bathing suits (bikinis for girls) and run through the lunch period on the last day, across tables and whatnot to the pool where we jump in and have a massive pool party. It's kind of the same thing.

If you let girls strip down and run in there underwear in the school, every parent in a 20 mile radius will have a heart attack and report to the local authorities about how "violated" and "exposed" their poor daughters were.

Besides, I wouldn't mind running in my boxers, I have a good amount of muscle mass and a nice package. I would just be "advertising".

I have no problem, since I a m a wrestler. I have to strip down in my underwear in front of people all the time. It is an okay tradition, my school's tradition is...nothing. I do think girls should be allowed to have their own thing like a bikini beach volleyball game or something.

Most definitely a 5 star question. This is simply because of old traditional gender roles and the double standard. Maybe one day this will change but still a girl is to be respected, protected and hold onto her innocence while a male is to revel in their sexual prowess.

I mean we both know that when the girls see their male classmates in just their boxers/briefs they find it to be comical and funny and that's about it...but if it was the other way around the guys would be seeing the girls as sex objects and trying to grab them and stuff...plus afterward they would probably try to talk each one into sleeping with them. I did not like using the word hypocritical but could not find a better word. Gender roles have biased our feelings for what is acceptable for females and males. Also men are more visual then women that is why it is sexual for men to look and funny for women to look.

I don't think it's appropriate for either sex to run through a school's halls in their underwear, let alone with the opposite sex watching. Call me a prude if you must, but I think people should have more modesty than that.

For the most part, girls are taught to be ashamed of their bodies far more than men are.Young girls are more critical of their own bodies than anyone else. Girls would never do something like this, because of the higher amounts of fear and shame.

In this age of political correctness, "equality for all" and other liberal ideologies its considered "unequal treatment" for guys to run around half naked and not allow the girls too. I'm sure some feminists out there with a sexist chip on their shoulder would get mad that girls cannot do the same but I think it would be a bit humiliating for most girls to be pressured into this so it wouldn't be right. Guys naturally give their peacock shows so it doesn't really bother most at all.
