What does it mean if a guy offers to drive you home?

After our Stats class, this guy I have been getting to know and I walked across campus together to the place where he meets up with some of his friends afterwords. During the little stroll he told me that I should come to the cafe later; a medium sized group of people meet there every Friday to discuss science (me being a physics major, it's fitting). I was delighted but, remembering that I live a few miles off campus and I would happen to miss the person who usually takes me home, I was compelled to ask who else would be there (with hopes of finding someone willing to give me a ride). He told me a few names of those who would be attending then inquired as to why I was asking. I told him that I was searching for someone I know who could give me a ride and he immediately offered his services.

Now, during the meeting I was hanging around with the guy and a few of his friends. They were a joking group of solely guys and I was holding my own in the conversation. At one point, when I was talking with another guy who was there, I heard one of his friends say to him "I like her" in a hushed, confident tone.

He ended up having to take me and a friend of his home, who, when we got to the car, insisted that I take the passenger seat.

With all of this said, guys, could you help me interpret this occurrence? Is there a chance this guy may have feelings for me? What did his buddy mean by his comment?
