I don't think there is a toxic and a non-toxic relevance in this. What's toxic is the relationship. If you consider yourself to be a disordered personality, you might find someone who needs your trait to be happy. Who knows?
You can only help someone that is willing to help themselves, and most toxic people are about themselves and are toxic to others because it benefits themselves.
A while back I got ride of someone that was toxic to me, this person had been in my life since childhood. It took me years to realize that person was toxic to me, I tried talking to them about things and each time things would change for a while before that person reverting back to their old behavior. The thing was that each time I would talk to them, this person just learned to disguise their toxic behavior better. Making it harder each time, to catch on to their toxic influence.
Things came to head and I made the decision to remove that person from my life, it was not easy because of how long that person had been in my life. But since that person has been gone from my life, I feel better my health has improved and I am not involved in bull shit and drama that someone else was creating for me.
@Hal2002 Well, it depends with whom you was in a relationship. If you are with a nracissistic person, it is futile to wait for changes. The narcissist will leave you anyway once he is exposed for what he is. The covert type will do exactly what you've described. So it was a very good choice to flee the scene.
And if they do not respect or obey your rules, than what. You let them keep shitting all over you, destroying your physical and mental well being as well as your family and friendships.
Sometimes you have to put yourself first, and do what is in your own best interest. If someone does not want to help themselves, there is no way you can help them and you have to cut them loose or risk being pulled down with them when they finally hit bottom. You can not save everyone, and if you can not accept this truth you are going to destroy your own mind and life.

@Hal2002 Are you the same guy that I went back and forth with over the same discussion 7 months ago?

You know sometimes, you just have to take care of yourself first
You help mankind the best way you can. You don't put him out in the street like a garbage bag. If they're living in your home you make up rules
And if they do not respect or obey your rules, than what. You let them keep shitting all over you, destroying your physical and mental well being as well as your family and friendships.
