The violence against women campaign is wrong and is just causing more damage and this is why.... Yes being violent towards women is wrong but, the truth although it might not be shown as much is that violence goes both ways between Men and Women (I have been there myself as a male beaten, raped, robbed, drugged and more over a 5 year period by a women).

We need to be educated on the truth. This one sided education that's going on now is just wrongfully teaching boys that they're going to grow up to be violent towards women and teaching girls that all men will be violent towards them. It's wrong and equal education against violence in general is what is needed. Not one sided brainwashing.

I'm not sure you have much of an argument here in the manner in which you have presented what amounts to very little information. You start out by saying violence against women is wrong... so in turn, sending out such a message in Austraila can't be wrong if you do in fact agree with that statement.

Second, I believe violence against men is equally wrong, but I don't think these ads are saying all men are going to grow up to be violent nor do I think it's teaching women that all men are out to get them (unless you can point out an ad or pamphlet that is widely circulated in the campaign that says that exact point).

You have an absolute right to be frustrated that more information and help is not available to men going through the same things, especially given your own history, but to say promoting ads against violence against women is wrong simply because they don't include men, is not wrong. In order to shed more light on the situation of violence against men, you need more then just broad sided frustration to enact change. Women's shelters and help centers didn't just spring up over night... it takes funding, support, activism, and yes, getting the message out there. It also, in the case of men, is going to take more men willing to openly share their stories and openly demonstrate for more centers/aid/funding to force the issue to take more precedence.

The reason it is focused on violence against women is because something like 95-98% of domestic violence violence perpetrated against women. These stats could be skewed as men might be less likely to report acts of violence, stalking and harassment from a female partner to the police/loved ones due to fear of ridicule and cultural expectations.
I think there needs to be a campaign designed to target societial attitudes towards violence in general. Druken fights, one hit sucker punches, children filming another kid being assaulted by group; these incidents are on the rise in Australia and I think part of the reason is how the media glorifies it all. Imagine how quickly these things would start to change if the government took an active initiative to change the nation's perception that any act of physical violence is unacceptable.

The rates there aren't far off ours. They are more pronounced because they show the rate combined with sexual assault which men see much lower in relationships. If it only accounted for physical violence, it'd be closer. A danger is women may feel they have a free pass more than men do. Men have heard many times that it's wrong to hit women.

@cavmanier that article actually lists mensline as a resource for male victims of dv. The commissioner of victims rights can provide financial assistance for men with regard to legal costs/assistance. There are more resources available for women because it is more of an issue for women and children according to ALL CREDIBLE RESOURCES (which is why the government has put so much funding into it).
I am fully aware that there are women perpertrators but the issue is violence as a whole. Clearly something is wrong with society with the increase in i) sucker punches (king hits as called in the media), ii) school kids beating one kid up & posting on social media, iii) rock throwing off bridges onto cars, etc.
Personally, i think the campaign needs to focus on addressing the increased violence in society rather than just women.

What are you talking about? Where did I attack you? Me siting the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence was an attack I guess. I wouldn't have said anything, but your statistic or 2-5% of victims being male was so far off the truth.

I would not be surprised if women are more likely to get a lesser sentence "get out of jail pussy cards" (lol), but I'd also factor that women have lesser sentences because they commit less crimes and multiple offenses usually mean longer punishment. I'd want to see those numbers adjusted. I believe the progressive left has compared white to black sentencing disparity (which is due to their much higher crime rates I would think) but sometimes I go along with their logic for apples to apples comparison to basically crap on them lol.

Here is an interesting recent story related to what you were saying. This young girl raped her ex using a machete for influence. What I find interesting about the reporting is there is no mention of rape. The article refers to it as "Mears then began to engage him in sexual intercourse — all while still holding the machete." Sexual intercourse--really? I guess the reporting is just biased right? What's worse though is if you click on the link in that article it will show the article it was referencing where it says what she was charged with:

"Samatha Ray Mears, 19, faces six new charges, including aggravated burglary, assault with a weapon, unlawful restraint, partner family member assault and two counts of criminal mischief. In April, she was charged with felony strangulation for allegedly assaulting the same victim."

I'm no police officer but why the fuck wasn't she charged with rape? Am I missing something or maybe girls can't rape guys?
