As of late, it has been quite a tense period for me and my girlfriend.
She's very stressed at her job as a nurse, just had something of a breakdown for a mistake she made and it was taking a toll on her.
I had (and still have) a bad situation at work due to a "promotion" to security manager that actually is a dead end and made me a lowly security guard. The money is good, but it's essentially mook's work.
Plus, an inappropriate situation had arisen with a business associate, although I have been quick in ending it and telling everything to my girlfriend.
I had already gotten the rings, but had the intention to propose towards January-February next year as I felt we needed to pass the end of this year first, but she got very vocal about the idea of official commitment and marriage, and since I agreed with her, I decided it was useless to wait any longer - plus I suspected she had found the rings somehow.
So after dinner, I took her out on a walk on the lakeside. We were talking and discussing about our recent issues, but when we reached our favorite spot I made her the proposal.
I understood she hadn't actually found the rings because she started to cry, pushed me, called me an "idiot" and said she was in no mood for those jokes. For a moment I feared she was going to say no, I didn't understand.
I told her I was completely serious and wasn't playing with her heart, but if she wasn't ready we could have waited some months. She almost yelled that she was ready in that moment and said "yes", but that it also means that I have to stop being so indecisive and playing with her heart, looking at and ending up in "weird situations" with other women, that I have to marry her and be happy with her, as she only wants this.
I completely understood what she means and she's absolutely right.
It's time to get serious and grow up, start acting like an adult.
And so begins a new chapter in our lives.
