For anyone wondering what it means to be sensitive

Whether you are a guy who girls have told you that they prefer sensitive men, or you're a girl who already knows you are sensitive, or you have always simply assumed that you were shy, here is a useful book for you to read, called the Highly Sensitive Individual. Here are some highlights from the book:

  • You don't have to be sensitive to everything in order to be classified as sensitive. The book includes a list of things that you rank the level that they affect you on, and scoring really highly on 2 out of the 15+ options can indicate that you are a sensitive individual. Ex. not being able to work when your hungry.
  • Sensitive means you process a lot of information at once. So when a sensitive person describes a situation that only lasted two minutes, they are likely to notice a lot more that went on during the interaction than would a non-sensitive individual.
  • You can be both a highly sensitive individual and a sensation-seeker simultaneously. While a sensation seeker is the opposite of a sensitive person, characterized by lots of risk-taking, these people can also be sensitive as well. From the outside looking in, it looks like this person never learns from their mistakes, as after each risk they wind up vomiting. These people could even be the casual dating alpha male type, whereby they are using casual sex to escape negative feelings.
  • You can be a sensitive extravert or sensitive introvert. While sensitive people are most commonly introverts, there can be sensitive extraverts as well. It could be that you just happened to have lots of family and friends growing up that helped develop your social skills and helped lessen your anxiety and tendency to think too much.
