Sapiophile: (noun) means someone who is sexually attracted to intelligent people.
What is a sapiophile? How many women are sapiophiles?
Sapiophile: (noun) means someone who is sexually attracted to intelligent people.
Intellect without visceral attraction is doomed to failure. Although as the years pass by, I do find myself able to appreciate more things about a woman than just her looks or conventional sex appeal. I have always been attracted to woman who are individuals, think for themselves and develop their own opinions. I must say though that an intelligent woman who does not flaunt it but uses her intellect to increase her desirability is an absolute find! I guess that's why I lived with my college English teacher and almost married her (she was only 5 years older). Attraction is such a complex issue with physical factors at work along with visceral, emotional and too many others to list. Heck, if a woman doesn't taste or have an attractive aroma when I lean over to whisper something, it's a deal breaker. It must have something to do with pheromones. My point is that I rarely base my attraction on one quality of a of a woman, especially if I want to wake up beside them :)
If there are sapiophiles, they don't exist in high quantities in the midwest. I'm average to above average looking (play hockey/baseball to stay in shape), and I know I'm well above the above average intelligent guy at the university I go to. I'm a double major history/economics, two fields you'd likely run into people who value intelligence. No luck. Almost to the hilt ladies have bought into the "yolo" mentality at campuses.
If you can find one of these unicorns who are intent on finding you for your smarts and she's pretty bright herself. Go for it breh... I'm convinced the world in Idiocracy is going to end up being a horrifying reality a lot sooner than portrayed... We've gone from Animal House to the outhouse in less than two generations. *shudders*
Ha ha the guy that says he's above average intelligent at his university... huge difference between book smart and intelligence. Can you hold a decent conversation and by that I mean can you also listen to the woman to which you speak? I have no issue with holding a woman's interest (no ego), women deserve appreciation and after that even the average intelligent man will do. Just my two cents... by all means though correct me if I'm wrong.
I can't say for the Midwest but we have them in my town. I have girlfriends that are definitely attracted to smart men.
On dating sites I have learned to ignore almost all men that aren't in the career of technology/science. I should have IT Babe tattooed across my back if I were into such things.
We are out there.
@ChrisKnew I will correct you since you're wrong. You trying to conflate cognitive ability with social skills. Less intelligent people have been doing that since a long time ago and they have been criticized by the scientific community who do research on intelligence (also since a long time ago) đ
Pure 100% sapiophile. I've been hit on by guys ranging from blobby to damn is he a model? ( Which some have been ) But I can NOT get aroused or interested unless the guy attracts me mentally. If he shows me intellectual prowess and sophistication, suddenly an average or normal cute guy looks like the hottest shit walking. Every feature of his body I associate to that mind I love, I want to please it, and give his body that affection I have for whats upstairs.
I am asking out of curiosity, can you picture any specific example that would qualify as something you would evaluate as "intellectual prowess and sophistication"?
Definitely! A man who can make sarcastic, witty, well placed comments on the flip of a dime is a great example of "intellectual prowess", just expressing it in little, simple, day to day conversational ways. ( Always having me in laughter ) Or being able to make knowledgeable commentary. ( by knowledgeable, I mean studied into or thoughtful awareness ) He's able to approach a complex situation with tact, carefully maneuvering it into his favor or the desirable, most efficient, outcome.
In my experiences, I have ended up swooned by a practicing Doctor, Physics major, and a man who started his own political party and fights actively in politics.
Hope that was specific enough of an example.
Amen sistar! ;) This describes me to a "T" as well.
You are speaking my language. I'm the same way!
I have a 156 IQ. Currently holding down a 96% average in College. (Back to school for a second career)
I'm 39, and good looking from what I've been told many times. Been single 5 years now. I look 10 years younger than I am. And rarely seem to be able to attract girls. At least, that I'm aware of. So in my case, the intelligence thing doesn't seem to be helping.
@fr0tch You're not attracting women because women actually don't care about intelligence despite what they say. All these women on here stating theyre so attracted to intelligent men are so full of it. You'll see this theme from women all over this website, about how it's personality that matters to them, but as soon as the get offline, they become very shallow in what attracts them. If they don't think your hot (physically), it ain't gonna happen.
Brilliant men, who are gentlemen, are massive turn-ons.
The sexiest non-sexual thing a guy ever did was take a concept I had, and turn it into an equation. An equation! That worked!
I was instantly turned on.

I could care less about a guy's intelligence level. If he's intelligent, that's a plus. If he's average or a little slower that's a plus too because I seem a million times smarter every time we're together.
You actually mean 'I couldn't care less...' Ironic really, given the topic of conversation.
It is kind of interesting actually, but you can somehow assess how intellectual someone is based on the way they speak, or at least give a fairly reasonable approximation. And as odd as that sounds, the way some people speak CAN be a dealbreaker - and I am not talking about swearing, it's more so the usage of intonation and volume and emphasis on specific words. It's really interesting actually, but I can't really describe it. I hope you know what I mean.
You most likely have a very high Musical Interest. People who have this may or may not have any musical talent or specific interest. But they do process their world heavily through sound. So it makes perfect sense that you are listening carefully for that certain something that sounds just right to you... irrespective of intellectual content.
@Compatible That actually makes sense, I forgot it out of the post, but voice tone is a dealmaker or dealbreaker for me. Unfortunately I didn't really develop musical *skill*, so all I have is musical *talent*. If there's one thing that i regret, it's that.
not a phile of any kind...
I love geniuses, but since I know plenty of them I know the drawbacks that comes with. Depending on the person - it's alright, but a lot of the time it can be annoying - again, depending on the person.
i like smart guys but not arrogant "intellectuals". to me, street smarts and people skills are more indicative than just plain book smarts.
Intelligence is quite attractive. Think about the opposite would you find someone dumb to be attractive?
Guys certainly find the 'dumb blondes' attractive, but that's just because the blood has vacated the brain and gone downstairs thereby leaving them to wallow in their fleshly desire. However, females may not so comfortable with the idea that education comes as the dumb person endeavors to savor it. It's much more satisfying to find a walking encyclopedia with a receding hairline now. Right now!! That's my 2 cents :)
I prefer for the guy to at least be as intelligent as me, that way I don't feel like I'm leaving him behind in conversation. :)
Pfff... Knowledge ain't quite it. What about intellect, is there something for that?
Shit, the ladies are about to be all over your chiseled (Figuratively and literally) body.
Ha, nice one, 'decemberxblue'. 'Plato', what do you mean by "intellect"? Are you talking about raw IQ?
Nah, IQ has a pretty limited way of determining intelligence. Intelligence is broad but it's a system of sense-organ receptors that make the world intelligible so that the world can be predicted and anticipated. I'd say that IQ just functions on what's been already learned as it presupposes the knowing of language and some reasoning while intelligence is simply fixed. When I speak of intellect however, it's something which is recursively developed by contiguity with the external world.
The pursuit of sciolism and polymathy is futile. Finding salvation through the blood of Jesus and his Resurrection is so much more valuable that brings with it living water.
I'm a sapiophile. Though that has gotten me nowhere.
I've met people who call themselves sapiophiles but the evidence I observed points towards them just being pretentious and snobby
i like intelligence but i don't find it the most sexually attractive feature about a person
I think most girls will be attracted to someone intelligent
I don't think I am one. I mean, intelligence is nice and all but it doesn't do anything for me sexually.
Also, how is this question not closed lol?
Intelligence comes in many different forms though
Elaborate, please. And what forms do you find most appealing.
There are nine kinds of intelligences:
1. Naturalist Intelligence (âNature Smartâ)
Designates the human ability to discriminate among living things (plants, animals) as well as sensitivity to other features of the natural world (clouds, rock configurations). This ability was clearly of value in our evolutionary past as hunters, gatherers, and farmers; it continues to be central in such roles as botanist or chef. It is also speculated that much of our consumer society exploits the naturalist intelligences, which can be mobilized in the discrimination among cars, sneakers, kinds of makeup, and the like.
2. Musical Intelligence (âMusical Smartâ)
Musical intelligence is the capacity to discern pitch, rhythm, timbre, and tone. This intelligence enables us to recognize, create, reproduce, and reflect on music, as demonstrated by composers, conductors, musicians, vocalist, and sensitive listeners. Interestingly, there is often an affective connection between music and the emotions
3. Logical-Mathematical Intelligence (Number/Reasoning Smart)
Logical-mathematical intelligence is the ability to calculate, quantify, consider propositions and hypotheses, and carry out complete mathematical operations. It enables us to perceive relationships and connections and to use abstract, symbolic thought; sequential reasoning skills; and inductive and deductive thinking patterns. Logical intelligence is usually well developed in mathematicians, scientists, and detectives. Young adults with lots of logical intelligence are interested in patterns, categories, and relationships. They are drawn to arithmetic problems, strategy games and experiments.
4. Existential Intelligence
Sensitivity and capacity to tackle deep questions about human existence, such as the meaning of life, why do we die, and how did we get here.
5. Interpersonal Intelligence (People Smartâ)
Interpersonal intelligence is the ability to understand and interact effectively with others.
6. Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligence (âBody Smartâ)
Bodily kinesthetic intelligence is the capacity to manipulate objects and use a variety of physical skills. This intelligence also involves a sense of timing and the perfection of skills through mindâbody union. Athletes, dancers, surgeons, and craftspeople exhibit well-developed bodily kinesthetic intelligence.
7. Linguistic Intelligence (Word Smart)
Linguistic intelligence is the ability to think in words and to use language to express and appreciate complex meanings. Linguistic intelligence allows us to understand the order and meaning of words and to apply meta-linguistic skills to reflect on our use of language. Linguistic intelligence is the most widely shared human competence and is evident in poets, novelists, journalists, and effective public speakers. Young adults with this kind of intelligence enjoy writing, reading, telling stories or doing crossword puzzles.
8. Intra-personal Intelligence (Self Smartâ)
Intra-personal intelligence is the capacity to understand oneself and oneâs thoughts and feelings, and to use such knowledge in planning and directioning oneâs life. Intra-personal intelligence involves not only an appreciation of the self, but also of the human condition. It is evident in psychologist, spiritual leaders, and philosophers. These young adults may be shy. They are very aware of their own feelings and are self-motivated.
9. Spatial Intelligence (âPicture Smartâ)
Spatial intelligence is the ability to think in three dimensions. Core capacities include mental imagery, spatial reasoning, image manipulation, graphic and artistic skills, and an active imagination. Sailors, pilots, sculptors, painters, and architects all exhibit spatial intelligence. Young adults with this kind of intelligence may be fascinated with mazes or jigsaw puzzles, or spend free time drawing or daydreaming.
Thanks. Do you find yourself attracted to musicians of any genre, or only specific genres?
