My boyfriend cried for me, does that mean he really cares?

I have never seen my boyfriend of two and a half years cry, he feels it is weak to cry. We've had many fights before but this week we had a particularly bad period and a big fight. Anyway my boyfriend walked in and found me on the couch and went all weird he came and hugged me and started crying saying he thinks I'm beautiful and he knows he's a jerk he wants to change. He was saying he can't lose me etc. I'm quite shocked as I've never seen him cry before does that mean he truly cares?

If in 2,5 years he's never cried, you must have messed up pretty badly to drive him to that point.

Yes, it means he cares a lot, but it also means you drive him nuts with certain bullshit you two argue about and he just wants peace. Don't take his admission to "being a jerk" to be a real admission - he is most likely apologising for bring a jerk DURING the argument itself, not whatever stupid shit you two were originally arguing about.

This here implies arguing is a regular part of your relationship, which is why I've addressed your question the way I have. Saying you've had many fights before as casually as you have is rather troubling.

You need to seriously look at the root cause of your constant arguing. You may think it's very sweet and caring of him to cry over you, but it should be a wake up call for you to change as well.

You should be someone that makes him feel amazing and uplifted, not broken down and crying.

Yes it means he truly cares. What made you think during the two and a half years with being with him made you think other wise? I'm sure at the point of seeing you on the couch he just felt so fed up with the bad period you guys have had and the big fight, he just cried. Maybe it was his breaking point

Most probably, deep down, he does care. This depends a lot on who starts the fighting. You say he referred to himself as a jerk, so I assume it's mostly started by him. It's usually because of immaturity or insecurity. He has to learn that NOTHING is worth fighting over. It achieves nothing. He shouldn't learn this at your expense, though.

Sadly, this applies to so many guys and girls. They really are not ready to form a lasting relationship until they have learned this lesson.
