Boyfriend wants me to be more confident?

Hello! I really need some advice... I have been with my boyfriend for 3 years now, lived together for half of it. Lately he's been getting mad at me for having no confidence. For example: i didn't like how a dress looked on me so i changed and he told me it was unattractive for a girl to find herself ugly. He keeps telling me i need to have confidence and feel beautiful about myself in order for him to find me attractive. The issue is that he cheated on me before and thats why i dont have any confidence. Weve talked about this and all he says is that it was a mistake and i shouldn't let it effect how i feel about myself. But how i can i not? On top of this he hasn't complimented me in about a year. hasn't called me pretty nor told me i looked nice. How do i get confidence if the one person who wants me to have it makes it difficult?

You're young and have been with your boyfriend for some time. What you said at the end was basically "he hasn't been very nice to me in a YEAR." Thats a third of your relationship and a LONG time when you're 18. Sure from that description he isn't actively mean or cruel, but your boyfriend is supposed to see the best in you, be kind to you, want you happy and to be the person making you happy. Maybe this relationship has run its course and it's time for you to either be single for a bit or find someone who makes you feel good about yourself and doesn't just angrily tell you you should feel thay way.

To be honest with you, your boyfriend is right, you do need confidence but he should empower you to have it instead of making it difficult. I'm sorry about him cheating on you but that shouldn't stop you from being confident because you should be confident for yourself not him. if he sees that he'll feel more attracted towards you and I'm sure he'll come around with more compliments then.

First and foremost, your man sounds like a dick. Rather than getting mad at you, he really should be doing HIS JOB and making you feel like a freaking goddess.

To an extent, I can understand the frustration of seeing someone that has everything a man could ask for struggling with her self confidence (often times seeming to talk herself down), but as a partner, it is your responsibility to make her feel good about herself.
