According to the AVEN community, "A queerplatonic (or quasiplatonic) relationship is a relationship that is not romantic but involves a close emotional connection (platonic) beyond what most people consider friendship. The commitment level in a queerplatonic relationship is often considered to be similar to that of a romantic relationship. People in a queerplatonic relationship may be of any romantic or sexual orientation. A partner in a queer platonic relationship is called a zucchini."

First time I've heard of it. I have not been in one.

It is an umbrella term for nonromantic relationships and feelings that exceed or differ from the nonromantic feelings of normative friendship. QPR seems to refer to feelings primarily and the actual conduct of the relationship secondarily: meaning, some people who use “qpr” to describe their relationship use it because their feelings are different than the other nonromantic feelings/attachment they have to normative friend even though the actual qpr looks no different than your average bffship.

To be totally honest with you, I did not really know what it meant before you have asked the question, so thank you for making me learn a new term dear :-)

My Answer:
First time hearing about it and I think I have experienced it years ago, now after reading the definitions and running some online research, while I was in High School, a girl I knew, we practically grew up together, same neighborhood, and her Mother used to drive us to school for years, like since we were children till we became young teenagers. The nature of the relationship was exactly what you have described. It was also confusing but we never cared. We just went with the flow with years. They moved out of the country since, and I have never heard of them anymore. I think our parents are still in contact though.

My friends are in one (I think). I was in a relationship in which the feelings deteriorated over time, and I'm pretty sure that doesn't count (he got over me three days after the breakup).

Why does this need a new name? It's nothing new, it's called being best friends. I also don't quite understand what it has to do with queerness.

It is queer because society usually reserves what people may do in a qpr for romantic relationships.
