Is he protective and possessive about me?

I like this guy friend of mine a lot, who also had some feelings for me in the past, but never admitted them, I proposed him, he rejected me saying he doesn't feel the same and said that I am too innocent and he cannot hurt me.. After a few months when he came to know that I was talking to this other guy, he said to a friend that he would break that guy's bones if he ever hurts me.. Does he have feelings for me?

He does obviously, but they maybe more platonic than romantic, he cares about you a lot.
