What are red flags in the beginning of a relationship?

Red flags are anything that triggered less than ideal results in your past. Different people have different red flags, as they've had different experiences with different results. Red flags are what we've become sensitized to and tend to avoid whenever possible.

Here are some of my red flags:
People who attempt to minimize others in order to boost themselves (always expect their way and care less about how that impacts others).
People who demand, criticize, accuse, blame, assume and/or yell.
People who are more interested in superficial chit chat than deeper communication.
People who focus on enhancing their exterior facade rather than their interior beauty.
People who expect handouts or feel more superior or entitled than others.
People who insist on living beyond their means, and those who feel the value of an experience is based on how much it cost.
People who are self-serving and aren't considerate and respectful of others.
People who feel they are always right or are always trying to prove something.
People who project onto me what others have done to them.

There are many. Common ones are him being too solicitous, domineering, not listening to what you are really saying, not considering what you really need, taking too much for granted, attaching himself to you emotionally too quickly, any kind of abuse, not letting you make decisions for yourself, etc.

Analyze your past bad relationships and what "signs" there were then (because there was likely signs but we tend to ignore them). That's what I look for. And they need to be pretty major, because some aren't really "signs" (they can change or not be what they seem). But the big one is if they don't really take any interest in you as a person or your life. Sometimes this takes time to build a little (as you get to know them), but if it doesn't start happening, that's a big sign.
