How often is it that in a male/female friendship one of the two likes the other? Do you think males and females can truly be best friends?

Guys almost always like their female friends and girls almost never like their male friends.

Discrepancy resulting from the fact that women are predominantly drawn to confident, go-getting males who would have surely acted earlier into the connection if they were interested.
Even if the girl develops interests in the guy it often ends up snuffed out by his inaction.

Never orbit a girl you like, just tell her straight away.
Most women will not cut off a guy who likes them, they value the "friendship" despite it not really being one.
So if you insist on orbiting afterwards, you will be able to do that in most cases.

The number I keep hearing is that roughly 50% of everyone in a (long lasting) boy/girl friendship has romantic feelings for the other one at some point.

So well. 25% of the time both would like wach other. 50% of the time one would like the other. 25% of the time neither would. Assuming that the whole 50% thing is close to true to start with.

Maybe? I have never heard that. Women are generally speaking a little more outgoing and have it a bit easier with dating and so it is reasonable you're right. Nothing I ever heard mentioned any measured difference though.

No. I am not friends with any women. Because they tend to fall for me when they have someone already and that puts me in a very awkward and shitty position
