Why does my boyfriend say yes ma’am to me?

when i tell him to do something small like go shower and take a rest he’ll play with me and say yes ma’am it’s so funny but i’m like jeez omg what does it mean.

"Ma'am" is generally used as a sign of respect or used to refer to a female figure of authority. Some people use "ma'am" to be polite, or to be more gentlemanly. In this context, however, your boyfriend seems to have been goofing around with you. You gave him an order and he was complying with it.
