+1 yWhoever has the quickest access to a gun, and is a good shot. But it depends on the noise. If both are able to go, even better. Strength in numbers. Intruders may expect a man. But a battle couple? That'd be straight up terrifying! One with an uzi, one with a katana. The intruders would be begging for mercy!
Plus, if there are five intruders and the couple defeat all of them, then they can also corroborate each other's accounts of what happened better. Which makes it a little bit harder for police and courts to justify locking up either long-term.
The way it stands now, when the wife hides and doesn't see anything, it's his word versus the opinion of some court, which may not be a fair and impartial court, versus a lawyer who may get paid more to lose the case. Jury tampering is a thing, especially in Arizona and Minnesota.
And often, there is more money to be made in convicting a man for defending his home than there is in honoring his right to defend it. The equally wronged wife? Just acceptable collateral damage on the way to a paycheck. And if the original intruder were getting paid by the court to stage the whole thing to begin with, knowing they might get killed in the process? Also happens, and is even more diabolical yet! That it constitutes entrapment on top of everything else is something courts no longer care about.

There is no best answer. I live in an apartment with a monitored alarm system. I have sensors on my windows that go off if one is opened and I have glass break sensors if the glass is broken. When I go to bed I turn on a laser beam that goes across my living room. If that beam is broken the alarm goes off. If I am not at home and my system goes off the monitoring company can actually tell what sensor went off and can get this information to the cops. I have a panic button close to my bed as well as a P-320 in my nightstand. I have several alarm modes on my system. I can put every sensor on the monitoring or just my windows. Somebody breaks one of my windows and the monitoring company will send me a text on my phone. If I don't reply to that text within 60 seconds they will call the cops. Now to the question. I don't advise leaving the bedroom. Go lock your bedroom door and call 911. If you have a panic button push it. At worse all, you will do is find it was something that fell over and you will suffer some embarrassment. At worse and there was somebody in your home, the life you saved may have been yours. Home invasions are on the rise.

@Vegasrunner might be difficult to want to admit, but some women have enough resources to physically take a man down… now, if a woman does go down to defend against an intruder, it is either because she is more capable than the man or, she is on her own so she has no other choice but to do so.
also… many women are well aware of the fact that, they can’t take a man in a physical fight, and they do not deny it lol… - +1 y
@Blackcupcake Your right about that. Not to be mean, this is a compliment, but black women are genetically stronger than other women due to genetic diversity. This is a good and positive trait and its part of why I am attracted to black women. Strength and femininity can correlate. For me, I would protect the girl and I think its overall better if the guy is protective of his girlfriend and wife. But girls can be capable of protecting to and they can do it to. But I would prefer to do it more than my girlfriend or wife. Or we do it together. We dont need drama over it, I would be respectful, but it does to me seem like the guy should do it more often.
- +1 y
@Blackcupcake I think its practical for guys to defend the females they care about and there girlfriend or wife. For one, she is more likely to be raped or killed. Having that extra sense of protection, even though she can protect herself, can benefit her. Her protecting herself and not always relying on him, can be good for her. I would like it if my girlfriend protected me on days I couldnt protect myself, when I got really triggered. The woman bears children and must be protected for that.
- +1 y
@Blackcupcake That sounds good on paper but there is no reality to back that up. A great example are the Jan 6th riots. When rioters where breaching the back capital door and there was only brute force standing between democracy and freedom, there were no women on that line. When put to the ultimate text, w/ their life on the line woman revert back to their nature and hope for a strong man by their side to protect them.

00 Reply It's changed over the years in our house. When I was in the Navy, nothing would wake me up. So that would have been my wife. But now, it's me. But, woe unto the burglar who encounters or wakes my wife and doesn't have Starbucks for her. She has a Louisville Slugger just for that purpose. Me? I'm more likely to just sit the burglar down and talk them to death. Offer them a cloth napkin and make them take their shoes off.

3.6K opinions shared on Relationships topic. No one is getting into my house quickly or without making a LOT of noise. I have many layers of defense, some that are obvious and some that are not, but they are all going to slow someone down and expose them.
Then there are the dogs. One is loud and super sensitive - the other is half wolf and is silent and often invisible, but very territorial.
If you still manage to make it inside, my brother is a former Air Assault infantryman (he roped into combat from helicopters with a belt-fed machine gun) and I'm a former competitive shooter with years of IDPA training.
It's not likely to go well for the intruders.10 Reply
+1 yWhy not both? Or if it's really a loud noise, why not neither? Most people don't have a two story house. They could leave through a bedroom window, skip the maybe-get-murdered part, and come back in the morning or with company to sweep the house—if it seriously sounds like an intruder. There's no need to "check" if you know who should be in the house and what noises they can make. If it's not one of those noises, there you go. It's something bad. Get out.
A cat can't knock a good chair over. A dog can't break a window. And if they have children, well then we're back to both going down. Why would you risk splitting up in a situation like that?

+1 yI swear women hear noises that are just their imagination. I think they want you to go out and check just to see if you'll do it. They'll be back to sleep before I even get back to report that everything is OK.
But yea, the man should check. It's his job.

+1 yIt's the men of course.
Because for some miraculous reason, the 'strong' in "I'm a strong and independent woman" doesn't apply when someone breaks into a house.
Or is it so surprising? Because more often than not, we see feminism and the "I'm a strong and independent woman" get thrown out the window when:
1. Bills need to be paid.
2. There is noise downstairs.
3. War breaks out.

+1 yEither or. I would go check a lot of the time, but we can go together or she go sometimes. Its not like, the end of the world for a girl to do it sometimes or we do it together often. I'd just wanna make sure me and her are both prepared for certain situations. I would be protective if my girlfriend, out of love not to control. I like the picture.

I’m the kind of chick with upper body strength who’d walk over and take the intruders arms out of the sockets and shove his gun up his ass while I wait for the ambulance. 🤣 - +1 y

40 ReplyIt only makes sense if the physically stronger person goes first, and that is generally the man. But if he was in danger I would be down there in a moment.
20 ReplyThe man. Men are a lot physically stronger and better in those sorts of situations, they’re made to protect and stuff. I’m small and not that strong, I wouldn’t stand a chance up against someone if there was someone down there. Plus I’m the biggest scardy cat haha

+1 yDepends on the sound and the place. If it were in a situation like that and it's at my place, I'd be going unless the sound is way too threatening that it would not be safe for me to go. But also, if it's way too dangerous for either of us to go I'd just stay back.
00 Reply Honestly 99.99% of the time a loud noice is downstairs its our cat. So we kind of dont check anymore and try to remember beeing carefull in the morning. But lets say we hear voices that are clearly not our cat I guess I would be scared as hell but if he wouldlgo downstairs I would be scared about him even more. Try to lay a trap in the room we are in otherwise call police and try to stay quite ourselfes would hopefully be the plan.
00 Reply982 opinions shared on Relationships topic. It depends. If she has ever claimed she wants equality or has any kind of feminist ideas then she should go down to check first while he doesn't help.
If they have a normal relationship where he is the leader and each person takes on their rightful roles, then the man is supposed to be the protector of his family.

Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yThis doesn't answer your question. But, I know a lady who had an arranged marriage in a different culture than is the standard culture in the US. On the first night of their marriage, she heard noise downstairs. She asked her husband what that noise was. He replied, "That is my parents moving in"... Imagine that being dumped on you when you were married less than a day...
