Do people ever give up on the man or woman they love because of family pressure?

That happens a lot in my culture (Japan) although I'm not sure it should be the case. But Japanese place a lot of value on their parents' opinions of partners.

Not with me. Although i focused every ounce of my efforts on escaping my toxic family first and foremost and keeping myself low. That's the cost i paid. Haven't had a (real) girlfriend because of it.

what makes you think they were getting family pressure not to be with you?
most guys have a high bar for marriage and a low bar for sex it has little to do with family pressure unless you live somewhere predominantly Asian.

I think the fact that they had money, which neither of them denied, made them feel superior. They were the sorts who cared about the fact that I was public school educated.

I’m no supermodel or genius, but I am a well brought up, ladylike, classy, good mannered and attractive woman. There was nothing else for them to have low standards about me for.

I had mutual friends of a rich guy that was always banging on about being the heir to a fortune enquiring what my parents’ house is worth and whether I was private schooled too. He thought because I was poorer and happened to like nice things that I was after his money.

so the main difference between you and the women they ended up marrying was money and social status. That is peculiar but I guess these were some very high class guys. I don't really run in those circles so couldn't say what motivates rich guys.
