What was the saddest, most poignant love affair you have ever had that you still think about sometimes?

I dated a girl for about 4 or 5 months. She worked as a bartender and was the only girl I ever picked up in a bar. She just seemed really nice I went back when she got off work and asked her if she would go out with me. She was the opposite of all the girls I ever dated. Her whole life was about drinking and partying. It was a lot of fun at first. We really had a lot of fun and we sort of fell in love with each other. She was abused as a kid by her parents and her older brother so she had issues and I think she may have been bi polar. Sometimes she would get angry and call me all kinds of names. It was hard to believe it was the same person saying all this stuff to me. She used to hit me. I would never hit her back but I used to restrain her until she calmed down. One night she showed up at my place one night and she was drunk. I was going to school and I was trying to study and had an 8 oclock class the next day so I told her that I could not go out drinking with her. She got mad and started calling me names and finally she kicked me and stormed out. Later she called me from the hospital. She crashed her car and needed me to come and drive her home. After I took her home we had a long talk and I told her that I loved her but I thought she had anger issues because of what her parents did. I told her that maybe she should look into getting some help. I told her I would go with her for as long as it took. She said she would talk to her doctor and would give it a try.. A couple of weeks later I asked her if she found a counselor and she said that she felt better and didn't think she needed it. I told her that I did not think it worked like that and I would not let her abuse me anymore. I guess she got mad at me because the next day I tried to call her and she would not come to the phone. I knew she was there because I heard her roommate tell her it was me. I tried a couple of times after that and got the same result so I drive over to her place. She was staying with a friend and her boyfriend. They told me that she moved out and said she was going to live with some friends. I think that they really kicked her out. I don;t know where she moved to and never found out what happened to her. I went by the bar that she used to work at and she was not there either. A little after that I moved to a different place and never saw her again.

@exitseven That is super sad, my man. I knew right away when you said she loved to drink and party that she had some major emotional issues and trauma. I'm still working on a Take about that actually. But really sorry you went through that.

Girl I dated some years back. Was the sweetest I ever met, almost felt like family. She treated me like a king and I'll never forget our little road trip that summer, that's always what stays with me because it was so special to do that with someone you were close to and felt so great about. Then one day I stopped hearing from her. I would text her but she would just leave me on read, yet blocked me on social media. Totally ghosted me. Never any explanation for why.

That tore me up for a good long while, gave me a lot of anxiety too. I struggled to recover for literal months but over time I did. I look back now and I'm totally over it and realize I would never want somebody like that back in my life. It's amazing how you feel like you'll never survive or never want someone else after a breakup, but then as time heals you, you move on and look back at the person like 'what was I thinking?'

That experience is why I keep telling people to let go of those who let go of you. Don't try to make sense of why they did it or hold on to hope that they'll change their mind and come back. Choose self-respect, and choose the person who comes into your life and stays there.
