People with Physical Touch as their love language, how and why do you feel love this way?

I've heard many different explanations for how they feel love through physical touch.

Some answers are that when someone touches them, they can feel the love run through them by it. That something as simple as a hug just feels a lot more to them than it does to others. Some say, "How can you say you love me if you don't touch me?" Some lack touch or affection throughout their childhood and have a hunger for that sort of comfort.

How do you explain why physical touch means so much to you?

I think I've always just been a very physical type of person into sports, dancing, things of this nature. You can even see that when I talk; I'm one of those people who really talks with their hands with very enthusiastic body language.

Words always seemed fairly clumsy and prone towards cliche to me, especially when expressing love. Like I cringe at Hallmark cards:

It just seems so tacky and unoriginal to me. So words are actually the worst way to express love with the way my brain works. Far better to me is, say, to write an instrumental song to express love to a person (and I actually prefer no lyrics) or paint a portrait of them: using visual or auditory mediums to communicate love rather than the verbal medium.

Yet my favorite medium of expression for love is touch. It just seems the purest and most universal form as I see it and most transcendent of time and culture. We could be cavemen and cavewomen who haven't even developed the spoken language yet and, still, holding hands would be understood universally as communicating love and affection.

So I find touch the purest, truest, timeless expression of love. Words are the absolute worst from my perspective. They come bundled with cliches and are very much an artifact of the current culture and fashion trends.

It's hard to explain.. Part of it, as a man, we don't get touched at all in our daily lives. It's seen as inappropriate for any form of simple human contact. So when we are with someone that's our only outlet for it.

So when our significant others reject us, and I am not referring to rejection for sex, it's super painful for us. It's the equivalent of refusing to say I love you. It's essentially a slap in the face emotionally.

I'm late in answering this so it's obvious I will not get chosen for the possibility for MHO, but whatever. Anyway, I read somewhere that this was one of our ancestors main forms of communication. Also, when we touch someone, something in our BRAIN releases feel good hormones like oxytocin, vassopressin, and or other types of endorfins. I'm no scientist but yeah, I've read some research on it. This happens to be one of my main forms of receiving love too! Because not only is it free to give, but it's soothing. Sex is one type of physical touch, so is hugging, kissing and cuddling.

I was molested by a close family member and my school teacher during my childhood so I was very wary of any physical touch as a result. It wasn’t until I met my ex, he made me feel safe with his gently and loving touch. I never felt violated, I felt love. Like he treasured me and treated me so gently with his hugs and all, that’s what I realized I’ve been craving for a loving gentle touch that didn’t violate my physical boundaries.

I'm not too sure why I only feel love this way. I guess because I don't really touch anyone except for people I love. To be completely honest I feel it the most through sex lol. Maybe because I always felt unloved growing up and I lacked much physical touch.

Good Question cause thats like 3rd or 4th out of 5 on my list. It doesn't compare to words of affirmation nor quality time for me. I’m not the touchiest and have to be really comfortable and into someone to get all touchy. Im not a big hugger/cuddler

I'm curious about that as well. I am a "no touch" person... even if I love someone, too much physical contact wears me down and gives a nasty... let's call it sensory overload. Like when you pet a cat too much.

Because it feels nice and I like the close intimate contact and I've never really gotten much physical affection from my previous partners so I guess you could say I'm a bit starved for it.

Physical touch is not my love language but I am a touchy feely kind of guy. I love holding hand while walking side by side. It is part of the bonding process to me. It helps to show trust and build trust.

A major and very personal way to express love, is through touch. I want them to feel how much I love them, be it sexually or simply working knots out of your back.
