I don't think guys lose the ability to love I think at some point we come to terms with certain realities. When you're young women want the hot guys, if you're not hot you're the odd man out. As you get older women mature and you are now a more viable option to them. But the best women, the women who truly want to be married are all married off by 25. After 25 are the next tier women. These are the women that desire to find a guy and get married, but only on her terms. These women have to learn that love is about give and take and partnerships. As these women wise up they eventually get married. But sometimes they have to fail a few times first. Lastly you got the women who men are nothing but objects to them. They may or may not want to get married but even if they trick a man into marrying them it'll never last. Because they do not even care about him, only what she wants. As you approach 30 and 40 this is the vast majority of women that are still single.

So I don't think men lose the ability to love. I think we just reach an age where loves has no utility to us anymore as there is no more women left worthy of it.

No doubt. I've been temporarily depressed to the point that I can't feel anything positive. Like, my daughter can randomly hug me and tell me she loves me, and I actually can't feel it. Of course I still give her my love and affection. I'm not a psychopath. As far as relationships go, I assume it's the same thing. But I don't know for sure, because my wife would never treat me lovingly, so that same situation could never come up.

I don't think the problem is an inability to love others. I think the problem is loving some but not others. I know people who love strangers but hate their children and their spouses and for no reason whatsoever. Neither one abused them or disrespected them.
