You are talking about the no-contact-to make-him-(or her)-miss-you game. It is a silly game more appropriate to junior high school kids than grown and allegedly mature adults. No contact should be a strategy employed in earnest to help you to put someone into your past, to help you move forward.

If you're going "No contact," for whatever reason, and I hope it's not a frivolous one, i. e., you want this person to "miss" you, "no contact" means "NO CONTACT."

If you're having a vacation from each other, people who are close to you know this, and won't expect the two of you there.

Unless it is a political event or a required business event, there is no reason to go. This is espeically true if it is SOLELY a social event: wedding or the like.

You could go by yourself and stay a short time to make an obliatory appearance. But there is no reason to go as a couple, since you currently are NOT a couple. You could also go with a friend, or relative, to be there with someone who is not the SO.

If you see the SO at said event, I'd take this as the time for a judicious and swift exit. Therefore, you keep the "no contact" clause intact.

There is nothing "COOL" about dithering around with agreements set up for a valid reason: You do not want to see each other due to X, Y, Z-- some break in your relationship that needs time to heal. Keep your distance and keep the peace.

I think it depends on what happened and also the event. You said “you both HAVE TO attend” so is this like, a grandparents’ funeral or something where I truly have to attend or is it more like, a mutual friends birthday party where it would be kind of odd if I don’t attend but not the end of the world? And am I just mad at him, or trying to keep him from getting obsessive, or am I really afraid of him? If I’m just mad or worried he will get obsessed I would attend and act normal overall but only civil to him. If I’m really afraid of him (which has happened in my life) I would not attend.
