When you two are in a room filled with other people, how often do you catch him staring at you?

Constantly! I swear, he’s always looking right back at me.

I’ve noticed him staring a few times, yeah.

I think I’ve caught him staring once or twice.

Nope, I’ve never noticed that.

Depends on how many people are in the same room. Now, assuming that there are 100 people in that room, of which 50% are men, then it may take a while until I would notice the same man staring at me.

I tend not to stare at people but my look moves from one target onto the next one for 2 very distinctive reasons.

1. To assess a person to see whether this person represents a danger to me and whether I have to take evasive action or

2. To see if I know a person and to greet that person. It usually does not take more than 1 second for either case.

That process may lead to me looking at a random person more than just once in a crowd.

I will catch him looking at me occasionally and we'll both smile at each other.
