No self sacrifice is the ultimate expression of love, anybody can have sex but it takes a special kind of love and a special kind of person to throw to put themselves in danger like themselves in front of bullet or to downright sacrifice themselves to protect their loved ones.

It's one of the expressions of love but not the ultimate. Depending on each guy, I'm assuming.

Sex is about procreating. Love is an evolutionary by product that is tied to sex. When people have sex bonding hormones are released in the brain. This is to ensure that a couple stays together long enough for the offspring to achieve maturity.
