Why do some people change when they fall in love? Is it the relationship's fault, or is it human nature?

Great question and I don't think there's any clear answer, but here's my 2 cents...

People change when they fall in love for many reasons. They could be afraid to lose the person they love. They could love them to such a degree that they would do anything for them. It may cause them to act irrational, become anxious or insecure. It might make them submissive and obedient. It might also make them more confident in themselves (if it's a healthy and secure attachment relationship). The way it makes you act can completely overhaul your previous personality. The way it makes you change differs from person to person. Sometimes, it may not even make you change. Someone might just be a very consistent person.

There could be a lot of different reasons, but one thing I’ve personally seen happen is when people who have a lack of identity always change to act like whoever they’re closest to. It’s like they have no authentic self, or no idea how to just be themselves, so the change into this inauthentic actor who you don’t even know anymore. I’ve seen this a few times and the overt fakeness of these people makes me gag. I mean, I get having things in common with someone as you grow closer to them, but to complete change your personality and act like an entirely different person, altogether, is messed up on many levels. I get that there are other reasons why people might change (to some degree) when in relationships, but this one in particular I really don’t respect.

Honestly, I don't know if it truly "changes" a person but moreso encourages latent behavior.

For example, when I was single, I definitely hung out more with friends in day to day life and going out. Whenever I found myself in a relationship, my focus did shift to my SO during that time. I just like to focus my time and energy on one particular person when available.

Hmmm, I have never observed any significant changes when the love was genuine; however, this has only occurred on a few occasions, and multiple occasions when the love was one-sided. However, this is a separate discussion.

Depends on the nature of the relationship.

Just as some people change when inebriated, so it can be with things like love, money and success. Some people can "turn" when you give them too much of something unconditional.

It's just that priority changes. It is why being the same is important even when we fall in love. Lot of people feel the pain more than happiness in love, when their partner doesn't reflect their love in the same way.
