I don't know about normal, but I have experienced guys sincerely not having a clue as to what is happening all around them, no offense, lol. I think women can read one another betterish than a man sometimes can and there could be drama going on behind his back.

It was a good call her friend backed off not everyone would, those who would let the guy decide.

I have been really stupid before when I was single and out there, dating, as I didn't have the first clue about anything, just thrown into the pit, so much so that I would let girls with big egos who too wanted my date, man (in all fairness he wasn't mine just yet, we had not yet decided we were a couple, too early) and the excuse being she was into him first (well, how come he ain't dating you then instead of me? I should have asked). Or really the attitude he should not be with someone like you, but me, and I am going into battle to get him. Could I go back in time I would have smack myself and tell myself to get real and stop being such a sissy. I was dating him, his choice. What ever was going on or not between him and this ego girl would in time show itself. I guess I disliked drama so much and disliked having to date someone who did not have a clue or maybe would be a player or interested in her more than he was into me, so I jumped out of the circle real quick instead of taking a deep breath.

There is I suppose this rule that if a girl is there first to get the guy and something is happening between these two that you should step back and let them be. If a friend of mine would be the first one of us who would be into someone I too fancy that way my first instinct would be to step back out of loyalty to her. I would not tell my friend this, though, nor would I tell him. If she got the hang of it I still would not like it if she told him, it would be OK though if I had moved on, embarrassing, yea, but what can you do?

I don't know if your girlfriend got you fair and squere, but then again I've learned all is fair in love and war.
