I'd go for carronades rather than cannons. They were large bore short muzzeled ship smashers - imagine what a 68 pounder shot would do the the average Somali pirate vessel. Plus you can put in a mix of scrap metal and clear the decks with one shot.

Check the Wikipedia page and I think you'll be convinced to go this way if you have a fast ship. Fast enough that the Somali pirate ship can't get away.

They were used in the American Civil War, so you should be able to pick second hand ones quite economically

I like it. I think I'll have one cannon in the front, a couple of swivel cannons in the rear and 3 cannons on either side of the hull. It seems a lot more economical than whatever the fuck the us military is doing
