4 moIt’s a heavy question, and the answer depends on how you define "living." While you can physically survive without love, research suggests that thriving—both mentally and physically—is much harder without some form of deep connection.
Here is how different perspectives break it down:
Biological Necessity: Many scientists view love as a biological survival mechanism rather than just an emotion. Loving connections trigger the release of hormones like oxytocin and dopamine, which lower blood pressure, strengthen the immune system, and reduce chronic stress.
The Health Gap: Chronic loneliness and a total lack of affection can be physically.
The "Romantic" Myth: You absolutely do not need a romantic partner to live a full life. Fulfillment often comes from: Platonic Love: Deep friendships and "chosen families" that provide the same emotional support as a spouse.
Self-Love: Cultivating a supportive relationship with yourself, often called self-partnership, which builds psychological resilience.
Purpose: Many find intense meaning through hobbies, careers, or community service.
Existential View: Some argue that while you can exist as a "solitary being," a life completely devoid of any care or connection to others can feel "unrealized" or empty.
In short: You can survive without a partner, but it's incredibly difficult for the human brain to function at its best without any form of love or belonging. John Templeton.
Are you asking because you're considering a more solitary lifestyle, or are you navigating a loss of love right now?22 Reply- 4 mo
Neither of the two. It's just a question nothing more.

My aim on GAG is to decode love, drama, red flags and all the messy emotions for you.
You can survive without romantic love, but not really *without* love. Humans need connection: friends, family, even a tight-knit community. No affection, no vulnerability, no one who truly cares? That usually leads to numbness, not strength.
You don’t need a relationship to be whole, but you do need *some* kind of love.00 Reply

4 moNo I don't. While romantic love is somewhat debatable, I think everyone in life should experience it at least once in their life. If not, romantic love, then the love of a family member or friends.
30 Reply 2.7K opinions shared on Relationships topic. No. "No man is an island" is an expression for a reason. Everyone needs to feel a % of affection... It's so nice to feel genuinely wanted and appreciated.
20 Reply1.3K opinions shared on Relationships topic. There's all different kinds of love. Our love can be for different people and friends and family members.
We aren't going to die if we don't find a loving romantic relationship.
I have found that it's okay to live your life without a significant other person.
When I was younger - from my teenage years up until I was in my 30's I felt like I had to find someone to love me and who I could give my love back to.
But as time went on and the years passed and I didn't have anyone to love or love me, I was okay with it. I didn't stop breathing because of it.
In fact, you can't really love anyone until you love yourself first! Period. Do you love yourself?
I spent the majority of my long life living as a single woman. Sure I dated a lot, but didn't find love.
At least not until I was 63 years old and when I least expected to find love. He was a total surprise! A wonderful surprise! And he loved me too. We were happy together for 6 years. Then as you already know, he died suddenly and I wasn't being loved anymore. But I continue to love him and I always will.
He was the love of my life and I am doing okay with my memories because I can still remember what I felt like when he was with me, loving me.
Some people aren't meant to be in our lives forever. Maybe for a season and when it's time for that season to end, you can hold on to your memories from that person and still feel happy that you finally found love even if you lost it.
So I am alone once again and not looking for love. I still have lots of love to give to other people, even though there aren't very many left.
I still love myself and still happy for my memories of the time that I shared my love with different people even though they left me.
You have to be okay with it because you are still here and still breathing and have hope in your heart that maybe you will find love one day and maybe not. Either way you will survive this life and love other things like your pet, family and friends. I don't have any of those in my life anymore. Memories!

Anonymous(36-45)4 moFirst girl I ever loved was when i was 26, like there had been other girls id been with but never loved was this pretty, short, skinny girl id met at a club. She was wearing this little dress and we hit it off instantly and went back to my flat where we had sex all night and in the morning. She left early saying she had to get going to as she'd be late for class, so I assumed she was a college girl and she said she lived upstairs in the building though id never seen her before. Anyway id finished early on a Friday at 4pm and came across her in the elevator. You can imagine my shock as she was in her school uniform. She followed me into my flat and I was asking her about her age and turned out she was way too young, I told her to get out as I didn't want to get in trouble with the police. She got nasty and told me that if I didn't have sex with her and be her boyfriend she'd go to the police and she started kissing and touching me, we did it her still in her uniform and we were together until she went off to university. Was devastated. she's married with kids now, works as a solicitor. Thing i remember most is how she had me wrapped around her little finger hhe whole time, not just with blackmail but she could always get me to do whatever she wanted through manipulation and her femininity.

4 moNo, we all love. We are made of love and are born to love. That's why we feel so bad when we feel like we don't have it in our lives. It is impossible to live without it and just look how many people die over it.
Love is always around us, through us, in us. The most depressed and heartbroken are not without love. They just forgot how to let it out. It is always, always in us somewhere like a candle waiting to light the dark. We just forget we hold the match sometimes.
So, no, it is not possible to live a life without love. 💖

4 moLiving a life without any love? You can but it would ultimately be very short.
However, living a life without romantic love is much easier than you think. As a society we put romance on this pedestal as the end-all, be-all of happiness. If you’ve never been in love, if you’ve never had consensual sex, if you’ve never expressed your romantic sentiments and had them returned, there are people who genuinely believe you don’t know what it means to be happy. This is, frankly, stupid. It completely devalues all other forms of love from philia (friendship) to agape (universal) to storge (familial) and philatua (self-love). According to a society that says only romance matters, only romance brings you joy, none of these forms of love matter, which is complete and total horse shit. You can absolutely live a life without eros (romantic/sexual love).10 Reply10.2K opinions shared on Relationships topic. Living without love is possible in the literal sense, but it usually comes with emotional costs that most people don’t fully recognize until they feel the absence of connection. People tend to learn that lesson the hard way, and usually when it is often too late to change their ways.
20 ReplyI think it’s possible to live without romantic love, but not without connection or care.
Human beings thrive on meaningful relationships with friends, family, and community.
Even without romantic love, emotional bonds and mutual support give life purpose and fulfillment.10 Reply- 5.2K opinions shared on Relationships topic.
u 4 monot for me, no...
it might be for others, unfortunate souls... but that's probably not a life worth living if we're talking about all kinds of love
or did you mean to ask about the "romantic love life" ?12 Reply- 4 mo
I'm referring to the idea of love in general. Nothing specific. Lol!
- 4 mo
that's not a life to live...
1.5K opinions shared on Relationships topic. Sure is. I do think there is a male need to love and a female need to be loved. A period between girlfriend's I did feel a lack in not having a girl to love.
However I am filling that need by doing community work, so I don't feel that need this time round.
So I do think it is possible to live without guy-girl love but you need a substitute.10 ReplyLove is luxury, not a necessity. A life without it is inefficient. Instead of wasting energy on emotions, focus on building systems and assets. When you are self-sufficient, you don't need love to survive. you need money. Use that solitude to build your financial fortress that's my own take if you ask me.
30 Reply382 opinions shared on Relationships topic. It’s technically possible
But I think love tends to find a way to appear in our lives no matter what
Even it’s not traditional romance sometimes we end up loving something or a pet or even someone in a non romantic way but still it’s love10 Reply- 788 opinions shared on Relationships topic.
4 moOf course yes , especially if that’s the goal. Also , what about giving love but it never being reciprocated? Or receiving love but not knowing it was?

4 moPossible? Yes. Lot's of people have done it. Desirable? No. Most people would probably be happier if they found love.
10 Reply 418 opinions shared on Relationships topic. I done it for the past 40 years of not having love apart of my life. Maybe puppy love but that's about if as far as my 20's went. I love my great nephew a lot though that's different than loving a female.

You already know that there's all different types of love. It doesn't have to be just fine one woman only in a romantic relationship.
