Multiple reasons than most prejudgments and stigma of the victims:

Bad parenting in their upbringing and they don’t know how to perceive nor experience what’s a healthy love.. aka this might be a family generational trauma cycle unfortunately
Victims can fall into old patterns of abusive relationships with being unable to love themselves, choosing wrong partners, etc
Fearful of changes and being alone with no positive support in their lives
Threatened Verbally and/or physically
No safe or stable environment to move
Family dynamics if there is a child involved
Culture influences
Judgments for staying and not knowing how to navigate on leaving
No stable job for survival mode
Not recognizing this is abuse and mentally impacted
Sadly some people don’t know how to be love and do not feel deserving of love consciously or subconsciously
Asking for help is difficult or not knowing how/who/where to reach out for help

Etc there's more I’m sure, but people should stop blaming them as they are victims and people do not understand victims mindset can be fragile and mentally impacted.

Abusive partners usually threaten to kill their partner, themselves, their pets, or their loved ones if they leave them. Not to mention attempting to do so can also result in stalking, which is a horrible experience.

For women, the majority of them like it that way, that is why they avoid good men and often get with immoral, terrible men instead, often with cheaters.

For men, if they are married they are likely to stay in an abusive relationship (most relationships with a woman are abusive to the man) because if he gets divorced the man usually loses the house HE worked for and earned, loses his car, AND has to pay alimony because society is very sexist and abusive towards men and it has been that way for a LONG time. Women like it to stay that way, that is why even "influencer" women never do anything to get laws changed that are harmful to men. Example: Candice Owens, Brett Cooper, etc. They talk, but never actually do anything useful to help men, they just try to profit off it instead.

Many reasons. Some people genuinely like toxicity even if they’re miserable long term being stable relationships is boring to them….

More often relationships start off really well such as someone doesn’t see the red flags in the beginning either because they’re too hormonal or someone is good at concealing it for a while. When it comes out they go into denial they make excuses and justifications in their head for the behavior and at some point even when their own feelings are gone they have invested so much into the relationship they don’t want to leave.

This isn’t something that just applies to one sex or the other. Both sexes do this….

People stay in abusive relationships for heavy reasons: trauma bonding, fear of being alone, financial dependence, low self-esteem, hope they'll change, or because the abuse is mixed with “I love you” and fake lovebombing. Abuse slowly rewires your mind, so leaving feels scarier than staying. It’s not weakness, it’s psychological control.

I don't know and have never understood it. I have interfered with violent abuse between an asshole and his girlfriend and the police told me it was a useless and dangerous thing to do.

Abuser psychologically manipulates them to make them feel dependent on them. Other times it’s a spiritual tie only prayer can break! Pray for them in Jesus name. Amen!

they don’t know better/ are not at a good place mentally. If the person has lacked being shown love and care all their lives and this abusive partner show they care they get hooked and easily justify the partner behavior and stay
