I don’t know why, but my boyfriend seemed kind of jealous of my girl best friend. I always made sure to do what he wanted and respect him, even when he told me not to hang out with her so much in uni.

I loved him and did everything I could, but he still ended up making me choose between him and her. I chose her because I can’t be with someone who would make me choose between him and other people in my life.

Then he told me he wants to break up with me and I don't know i just feel guilty but deep down i know i made the right choice

I know a guy who told me he dated 40 girls before he got married and I know another guy who dated over 300 girls before he got married, while a best friend might be in your life much longer than a boyfriend will be in your life. And a best friend judges you based on your behaviour, not based on your appearance or your financial status, so I do not think it is dumb to choose a friend over a lover.

Guilty about what - not letting some 20 year old kid control who you spend time with? If anyone ever does that to you, it should be an immediate walk away deal breaker. The only time that's acceptable is if the other person is potentially dragging you down with drugs, or crime, or really bad shit that you can't see. If that's the case, it's more of an intervention, and even those can be tricky.

In this case though, stop wasting your energy on guilt. Instead, you should be HAPPY you dodged a real bullet. This guy had loser written all over him.
