I’m confused about an ex situation and trying to understand the psychology behind it from a guy’s perspective.
My ex and I have had roughly 2.5 years of no contact. He currently has a girlfriend that he lives with, and we have not spoken or seen each other in that time. No conversations, no attempts to reconnect.
Here’s where it gets confusing:
In March, he viewed my Instagram story from an old/alternate account of his (one he had not used with me in a long time). After that, I blocked that account because it felt strange.
Shortly after, he then unblocked me from another old Instagram account of his, which also felt intentional and odd considering the amount of time that has passed.
Later, I deactivated my Instagram for a while. I’m assuming he may have thought he was blocked there too or lost access to seeing my profile entirely. The weird part is that the literal day after I reactivated my account, he unblocked me on his personal Instagram account, the one he had previously blocked me on.
What confuses me even more is that his profile picture is still him and his girlfriend, so it doesn’t feel like an obvious “I’m single” signal or someone openly trying to reconnect.
I’m struggling to understand why someone in a long term relationship, living with their partner, who has not spoken to me in years, would seemingly go out of their way to quietly reopen access across multiple accounts in such an indirect way.
Is this just curiosity? Nostalgia? Wanting access without intention? Guilt? Keeping tabs? Leaving a door cracked open? Or am I overthinking behavior that means nothing?
From a guy’s perspective, why would someone do this after this much time and effort?
