Why do some women compare their relationships to other couples’ lives?

My ex use to do this to me , and I witness other girls’ doing it to their men as well , They will say things like So and so’s partner just bought her a new house or a new car , or so and so ‘s partner took her on a vacation and bought her a new necklace etc.. basically implying that her partner isn’t good enough , When my ex did this to me , I would tell her to go find herself a better man and when she does , I will gladly drive her to him and drop her off. Why do some girls’ do this? And guys’ if this is happening to you in your relationship, start making your plans to leave her sorry ass

In your exes case, it may not have been so much about the items other women are being bought, but about the quality of their relationships vs hers. Unless the woman has historically been materialistic, those comments could’ve been her way of trying to say your relationship was lacking.


Purchases aside, how was the state of your relationship? Was she good at communicating and if so, were her qualms justified? Such as not feeling appreciated or not feeling like a priority, maybe you guys stopped having dates or spending time together, etc etc. Could even be a thing where the relationship used to be more exciting, even if it’s in the sense that you spoiled her more in the beginning, then it turned into her feeling like you lost interest. There could’ve been deeper, underlying issues that she wasn’t properly relaying and so it came off as ‘you don’t buy me enough high quality things’.


Obviously I could be wrong, I just try looking deeper into things that are being said or things that are happening in relationships, and get to the real issue of what’s wrong. I have had several friends that were couples over the years, and when I’d hear his perspective of what’s wrong vs hers, it seems as though things can often get lost in translation, if being communicated at all. A lot of guys typically aren’t good at having those conversations or being receptive of them, so his interpretation of a problem can just be quite out of touch.

For a lot of years her and I were
Inseparable and loving and caring to each other , we both were a team working together so we could have nice things and raise our children. We had are ups and downs but we always stuck together and got through it , once the kids’ got older , she completely changed on me , and no longer wanted to be my partner , and I was no longer her priority, she told me simce the kids’ are older that her and I should go our separate ways and live our lives separately, , so in the mean time she quit her job and acted like she should had no more responsibilities and acted like she should be catered to , , her whole personality and attitude changed on me and she started treating me like shit , she stopped sleeping in bed with me and she got addicted to online gambling which she lost so much money from , she also met a girl friend that she started spending a lot
Of time with and going on trips together making sure I was excluded , when she never excluded me before , I wasn’t important to her anymore , so I told her it’s over between us , she did nothing but be disrespectful to me and I felt used , everything was all of a sudden my fault and never her own , she lost her fucking mind al so I told he To get out and that it’s over between us , because I was over the way she was treating me and disrespecting me.

That's called the Soap Opera effect. Several years ago, stay-at-home women used to watch soap operas on TV, and compared their own lives to those in the soap. Now that many more women are working, they no longer have the soaps outlet, so they compare their lives to others that they know.
