  ISIS is a group of war lords with Al Qaeda ties, armed by the US and its allies , first to fight Saddam, then to fight Assad. Islam is their propaganda tool to impress people or inspire fear, whatever suits them best.
  Bad luck for the Iraqis: The US bombings and invasion created anarchy and a void in Iraq. Those war lords were all to happy to fill that void, hoping to become a real OPEC.
