A Lesson on History for those who think Catholicism is not a sect of Christianity (By a Deist)

First off let's pull the definition of Christianity (OH YAH I WENT THERE)

Chris·ti·an·i·ty
ˌkrisCHēˈanədē/
noun
noun: Christianity
the religion based on the person and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, or its beliefs and practices.
Christian quality or character.
"his Christianity sustained him"

so wait then what do Catholics believe?

Catholics are, first and foremost, Christians who believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Catholicism shares some beliefs with other Christian practices, but essential Catholic beliefs include the following:

The Bible is the inspired, error-free, and revealed the word of God.
Baptism, the rite of becoming a Christian, is necessary for salvation — whether the Baptism occurs by water, blood, or desire.
God’s Ten Commandments provide a moral compass — an ethical standard to live by.
The existence of the Holy Trinity — one God in three persons. Catholics embrace the belief that God, the one Supreme Being, is made up of three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

well, would you fucking look at that. ain't that the textbook definition of Christian

now what are the differences between this and Protestants who normally consider themselves "True Christians" in basis

Protestants believe that it takes away from the authority of the Bible to believe in any other source of scriptural truth. 2. The Nature of Salvation: Protestants believe that all that is necessary for salvation is faith in Jesus Christ and acceptance of his crucifixion as payment for our sins

and that the pope is Satan incarnate that marry was just the incubator for God and that no one is holy. (ain't that a bit depressing) oh and the fact that Good deeds mean fuck all to them and that you just need to come every Sunday to church to get your ticket for stairway to heaven.

but why do these uneducated Heathens think that their group is the only group and that Catholics are their own thing?

well, let's talk about the present but first, lets talk about the past!

The History of the Catholic Church begins with the teachings of Jesus Christ (c. 4 BC – c. AD 30), who lived in the Herodian Tetrarchy (later formed into the Roman province of Judea (Roman province) by the Roman Empire). The Catholic Church teaches that it is the continuation of the early Christian community established by Jesus Christ.

Around the year A.D. 45, Peter went to Rome and assumed control of the church. During the persecution of Christians by Emperor Nero, Peter was imprisoned and scourged. He gave his farewell blessing to all of his flock, and especially to Saint Paul, who was going to be beheaded the same day outside Rome. He was then led to the top of Vatican Mount to be executed by crucifixion. Deeming himself to be unworthy to die in the same position as our Lord, he asked to be crucified upside down.

(side note) (that is why the upside down cross is not a satanic symbol but actually just as holy as the inverse).

he died on June 29 in the year 67. Two hundred sixty-six popes have succeeded Peter since.

For the next 300 years, Rome would begin a serious persecution against the cult at the time known as Christianity... Christians began to meet behind closed doors and gradual changes were made. Elders of the church were known as bishops, and by the close of the third century; each congregation of any size had a bishop as its head, with a group of elders under him. No work was to be done on Sunday.

In 306, Constantine became sole Emperor of Rome. His mother Helena became a Christian and urged Constantine to ease up on the persecution of Christians. He decided that Christianity would now be the state religion. Finding much division in the church, he decided to call a meeting to be held in Nicaea in May 325 A.D. to discuss and unite over the issues that divided the church. Three hundred eighteen bishops assembled and established the Nicene Creed. And that would later become the Catholic church. a bit after the fall of Rome thanks to Christianity and many other factors.

*if only Constantine became a Buddhist instead we may have got out of the dark ages sooner*

now for the History of Protestants (note there were many movements of this in different area's and for similar but different reasons so I am only going to list it in general)

The Protestant Reformation was the 16th-century religious, political, intellectual and cultural upheaval that splintered Catholic Europe, setting in place the structures and beliefs that would define the continent in the modern era. In northern and central Europe, reformers like Martin Luther, John Calvin, and Henry VIII challenged papal authority and questioned the Catholic Church’s ability to define Christian practice. They argued for a religious and political redistribution of power into the hands of Bible- and pamphlet-reading pastors and princes. The disruption triggered wars, persecutions, and the so-called Counter-Reformation, the Catholic Church’s delayed but forceful response to the Protestants. and a bunch of fighting happened but it did not really stick until the King of England who was tired of beheading his wives and wanted to divorce made his own religion and basically solidified the Protestant faith.

though those who did not fall under either the church of England or Roman Catholic sect were persecuted with the new world came a release for that.

now back to the present.

the reasoning for why each group despises each other is written in the past. one does not want to fall into the Roman pyramid scheme and instead make their own. they are more so the Democracy to Monarchy only religion wise. it is this disagreement that leads to some (mostly idiot Americans in the bible belt) considering Catholics not Christian even though the Catholics are older and virtually made the new testament and edited the bible. (seriously its like saying the British don't drink tea when they fucking established tea drinking)

Now

For the rare few who consider Catholics a religion but Protestantism as a "relationship" about as much of a relationship as me with an anime character.

the definition of religion

re·li·gion
rəˈlijən/
noun

the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods.
"ideas about the relationship between science and religion"
synonyms:
faith, belief, worship, creed; More
a particular system of faith and worship.
plural noun: religions
"the world's great religions"
a pursuit or interest to which someone ascribes supreme importance.
"consumerism is a new religion"

in short, if it has a Deity that you can not prove real, has ritual's and tenants then it by definition is a religion. even if you think its real.

I hope that this lesson has shined some light on the ridiculous dispute both of these tools have been having for the last few hundred years.

Personally, I see both sides as children having an argument of who' Dad likes more,

and the Abrahamic faiths in general as who's Dad can beat up the other's Dad

while I am over here sipping tea saying Dad left the building a long time ago
