I wish you a blessed Ramadan everyone and a happy Eid!

Celebrating Eid, What is That?

Not many people know what is that. I am going to share what I know of and with a little help of MR./Or Mrs. Google (No sexism lol)

So as for the word Eid, the origin, and what does it mean?

عيد: It is an Arabic word that literally means a hopefully repeated occasion/ as it is used to highlight everything that we celebrate as Muslims.

Celebrating Eid, What is That?

For Muslims, we have only two Eid Holidays, Eid Al Fitr , and Eid Al Adha. So the upcoming one is Eid Al Fitr, lets see what is it about, shall we?

Eid Al Fitir "

is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting (sawm)." Wikipedia

So, after a month (Lunar month ) of fasting 29-30 days, we break our fast (Depending on seeing the moon stage )

-Islamic month:

"Each month of the Islamic calendar commences on the birth of the new lunar cycle. Traditionally this is based on actual observation of the crescent (hilal) marking the end of the previous lunar cycle and hence the previous month, thereby beginning the new month. Consequently, each month can have 29 or 30 days depending on the visibility of the moon, astronomical positioning of the earth and weather conditions" Wikipedia

So that is why it is not known yet when Ramadan will end, it could be known only by observing the stage of the moon, it might be Friday or Saturday.

As the sun shines the next day of the new month (Shawwal) marking the first day of Eid , most people celebrate for three days, and with the rise of the sun almost all people are ready for the first ritual.

-Eid Prayer:

"The Eid prayer is performed in congregation in open areas like fields, community centres, etc. or at mosques. No call to prayer is given for this Eid prayer, and it consists of only two units of prayer with an additional six incantations. The Eid prayer is followed by the sermon and then a supplication asking for Allah's forgiveness, mercy, peace and blessings for all living beings across the world" Wikipedia

-Visiting Relatives/Neighbors:

As this month passes, we celebrate the Eid with relatives by visiting everyone. Short it may be, but full of communication and laughter.

-Hospitality:

You have been fasting for a month and now you are going from door to door visiting. You are to have something to eat and drink, most likely people serve (KaaK كعك) which is cookie stuffed with dates or nuts, and for drink in Arab countries we serve Arabian coffee .

-Clothing:

In Eid, most people would be wearing new clothes so it will be all stylish and looking good.

-Good Deeds:

Of course you didn't think that Eid & Ramadan are all about rituals and traditions, it is the time when people are most giving and thoughtful of others the main reason of fasting is to feel hunger of the poor, and know how much we are blessed and how much we should give to the unlucky. In Ramadan it is normal to see people giving others food, money, and clothing, it is the time when people act the kindest and share with others.

-Bonus:

In Eid , as a tradition, working men gives money to the children and females in their family.

I hope you enjoyed this and I wish you a happy Eid full of love and mercy among us all. <3
