Light and Darkness

To me light is a symbol for cleanliness

And Darkness is a symbol for being dirty

When the bible says, dark am I but lovely

It means dirty and I but righteous

Which means she has a normal interest in physical relationships but waits until the proper time and correct procedure to apply those desires in her life

When you do not understand you can be both dirty and righteous, you will almost always choose being dirty over being righteous

I took that on face value, as she was ridiculed for being of a darker complexion, and hence being of a poorer station in life than the other girls.
