A lot of "bible thumpers" as they're referred to will claim that, no you can't be bi/gay/anything not straight. Typically quoting the bible verse about how if a man lays with another man the way he would a woman, he is to be stoned to death, as I recall? It's been a long time since I had this sort of discussion, but I digress.
Yet it's also about love thy neighbor. Besides, at its true, genuine core? I was always under the impression that being true to yourself and supporting your loved ones are the most Christian things you can do.
And if that means being bi, then so be it.
@Kkaos so what do you suggest a bi person do? abandon God and their love for him?
Uh. I guess? You can be Christian and anything. Jeffrey Dahmer was a professing Christian if I recall correctly and he raped, killed, and ate quite a few people.
The Bible is pretty staunch in its stance against male homosexuality though. If I recall correctly though it doesn’t say anything about the lesbos.
He wasn't a real christian
@Parkwayvwhitechapel that’s the infamous no true Scotsman fallacy. I can’t say what he did or didn’t believe, I can only say what he professed.
I can profess to being a kung fu master, doesn't mean I am one.
A person can call themselves Christian if they want, but if they do not exemplify living as G-d commands, then they are NOT Christian, sorry.
The Bible/Tanakh is actually VERY clear that murder, rape, and homosexuality are sins, so... not much to argue about with this question.
@BrianMerritt the Bible is not at all clear about rape. Murder is only unjust if god isn’t commanding it as noted by the multiple commands for genocide. Homosexuality more or less although it’s at the same level as sleeping with your wife on her period.
That said all Christians are sinners. Do you think someone who hates his brother can’t be a Christian? You’d be tossing out an awful lot of Christians wouldn’t you?
Depends on the denomination, I think. Some (Catholics, southern Baptists, etc) are known for being intolerant. Others are more open and welcoming/accepting on sexual matters. This is why I have a problem with organized religion.
I think you are confused.
There is a difference between tolerance and acceptance.
The first step in Christianity is admitting that we human beings have naughty thoughts all the time and are far from perfect when it comes to living the ideal way (as Christ apparently did).
Churches tolerate homosexuals the same way they tolerate drinkers and gamblers and cheaters and people who live a sinful lifestyle. Just because Christian denominations welcome sinners who want to change their ways, that does not mean they accept those things as non-sinful. Does that make sense?
I am neither Christian or Bi, but a Christian can be bi in my opinion
Yes
I am a lesbian and a Christian
From what I've read, the Tanakh/Bible is quite blatant about homosexuality being a sin, so... you can CALL yourself a Christian, but from a Biblical standpoint, as a lesbian you are repetitively committing the same sin , knowing it's a sin, with no means to change ways. That is not an exemplary practice of Christ's example. In other words, not a very Christian lifestyle.
@BrianMerritt And you are highly annoying who loves shoving your views into other people face lol
These are not my views. They are G-d's (allegedly). I myself am not deeply religious. If you pay close attention I deliberately worded my response to make it clear that I am speaking about what is factually in the Bible. No need to get overly defensive and bark up the wrong tree.
The Bible is pretty clear about homosexuality, and Jesus Christ was pretty clear about following those commandments, so simultaneously being shamelessly lesbian and being a disciplined Christian is... not possible.
If you disagree that homosexuality is a sin, then fine, great! But don't call yourself Christian if you disagree with the oldest part of the Tanakh/Bible there is. It doesn't work that way..."lol"

No, you can't. Homosexuals and lesbian must repent of their sin to become a Christian.
1 Corinthians 6:9-11:
Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived.
Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.
And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.
Drunk people cannot be christian, nor liars cannot be christian.
adulterers cannot christian.
And a straight man having anal sex with a woman is sodomy also.
So there just as bad as homosexuals
@Parkwayvwhitechapel By this logic you are not Christian as you are a liar. I disagree with this logic.
A Christian can call short and sinned but there is no such thing as a practicing Christian who lives a lifestyle of sin.
And @Whitechapel: Anal sex with wife isn't a sin.
*fall short
Sin = separation from God. I am not aware of any lifestyles that separate themselves from God. Sure individuals can sin and most sin many times a day. However you cannot state an entire lifestyle is a sin, rather the individual may sin more frequently than another. We all sin and fall short of grace, by His grace we are forgiven.
I agree with you, we are saying the same thing. I am just trying to let you know that someone who is bisexual or gay isn't serving sin. I have people in my life who are good Christians and are not straight. They pray, attend worship, fellowship, and spread the Word of the Gospel to others. Yes they still fall into sin like all of us through lying and being jealous but their sexual preferences are not a lifestyle of sin.
If you examine the Bible the scriptures about Sodom and Gomorrah are the source of 'gays are sinful'. However the real reason this is in the Bible is to show examples of cities who turned away from God. They openly mocked God, assaulted their fellow man, and didn't act as Christians. They could have been straight and still been seen as living a life of sin because they were separated from God.
@Hispanic-Cool-Guy Anal sex is sodomy, Whether with a male or female, it's sodomy.
Look up the definition of sodomy. gays practice and anal sex and it's unnatural, so is a man having anal sex with a woman is immorale and sinful.
@Parkwayvwhitechapel: Oral sex is sodomy too. God doesn't prohibit sex acts between husband and wife.
Sodomy is only sinful when its being done by people of the same gender.
So you're admitting anal sex is sodomy too, but only sinful when two men engage in it.
The anus is only for defecating only, exit only, not intercourse.
I would like to think god made vagina purely for the men to have sex in and nothing else
no other orifices, except that
@Parkwayvwhitechapel: That's your opinion. Some people like anal sex though. And the mouth is for speaking and eating yet oral sex feels pleasurable to lots of people.
I am a Bisexual Male Christian Who is in the Closet...Diversify Your Perspective! ↗
I did a whole mytake on this.
Nope. That's like being a peaceful murderer.
The Bible makes it's opinion on loving the same gender pretty clear.
You don't get to pick and choose which parts you want to follow. That's not how religion works, no matter how much you want it to.
(I'm not a Christian)
Can you be Christian while committing Biblical sins? Yes. And no.
The whole idea of Christianity is admitting that we are not perfect people, that we are far from the ideal that Jesus exemplified. But when you repeatedly commit a sin knowing it's wrong, that takes you farther away from that Christlikeness, and thus farther away from being a follower of Christ. Does that make sense?
So Christians do sin all the time... but... sinning is what Christians are supposed to NOT to do. Right?
yes but just because we aren't suppost to sin doesn't mean that we don't we still sin and god still forgives us just like you said we are not perfect and we never will be
Of course. Jesus himself said what the requirements are. Have faith, and be baptized. The council of Nicea tightened it a bit more, but if you can repeat the Nicene Creed with honesty, you're a Christian. For those in the cheap seats, you can find it here: en.wikipedia.org/.../English_versions_of_the_Nicene_Creed
There are many Christians who are gay and bi, there is no rule saying they can’t be Christian. In fact there are already gay Christian communities that have been established.
@Kkaos Ah yes, the famous “Leviticus 20:13”. http://www.livingout.org/the-bible-and-ssa It’s interpretations vary.
"It is also often claimed that the fact that these prohibitions appear in a book full of other laws which no Christians think they are expected to follow today suggests that they should not be taken as having abiding moral relevance"
I mean this is just a pile of crap. Of course interpretations vary because people want to change the meaning whenever it's convenient. There are a lot of old things in the Bible that were considered appropriate for the time they were written in, however society has now changed and they are now not considered appropriate... Therefore people who still want the best of both worlds say things like 'it's not meant to be taken literally' or 'I wouldn't interpret it in that way' etc.
@Kkais the Romans openly practiced homosexuality despite having Christian influences.
Eh, I had a look at this is what I found.
"Roman law did not recognize marriage between males, but one of the grounds for disapproval expressed in Juvenal's satire is that celebrating the rites would lead to expectations for such marriages to be registered officially.[122] As the empire was becoming Christianized in the 4th century, legal prohibitions against marriage between males began to appear."
It was Constantine who enforced Christianity, wasn't it?
The Bible refer to Lesbianism much, but there are verses that allude to it.
Romans 1:26-27; "Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another"
Don't think it really matters. It says it's a 'shameful lust' and 'unnatural'.
I think the Bible is pretty clear on its stance that homosexuality is wrong. There's also 1 Corinthians 7:2
"But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband."
People like to bend the Bible to suit their lifestyle and maintain the best of both worlds, but I don't believe one can claim to be a true Christian whilst also partaking in homosexual relations.
@Kkaos That doesn’t stop many gay people from considering themselves Christians. http://www.livingout.org
Yeah, I realize that. That's because they're ignorant. As I have shown, you can't possibly claim to be a follower of the Bible whilst strictly ignoring and going against what it says.
Many of these people probably grew up in Christian families and therefore are scared of leaving Christianity, however they're homosexual and therefore have to turn a blind eye to the simple fact that Christianity opposes homosexuality. They will try and make up flawed reasons and excuses for whats written in the bible and argue that you can't take it literally, but it's all nonsense at the end of the day.
Haha I see, I'm sure that interpretation came about after helicopters were already invented. If people read that 300 years ago and said 'this is alluding to a future vehicle that will hover in the sky and will be armed with rockets and people will fly it and attack other people', I'd be far more impressed. People can 'interpret' something to refer to anything.
Yes, but my point is you can do that with anything. You could tell me that you're going to get lunch and I could try and interpret some hidden meaning behind that.
But back on homosexuality, it's very clear. Anyone who wants to interpret it to mean something other than what it literally says is just trying to skew things to suit their lifestyle. The Bible says homosexual relations are a 'shameful lust'. That's a statement, it's not a metaphor and you can't just say 'oh, it was opposite day when that was written so it really means it's great!', if you're going to do that and make up your own meanings behind everything, there's no point in reading the book at all.
@Kkaos A discussion between two people is not the same as reading a text.
Your not supposed to make up your own interpretations in the Bible, you are supposed to know what it actually means whether it be literal, metaphorical or allegorical. In regards to how homosexuality is called an “abomination” in the Bible. That link I posted earlier explains that abominations in the Bible means “adultery”.
Well you're not knowing what it actually means if you're going to start saying that locusts = attack helicopters. That's just common sense.
I didn't reference 'abomination', I referenced the part where it said men gave themselves over to shameful lusts and abandoned natural relations with women whilst inflamed with lust for each other.
I also referenced the Bible stating that homosexual relations were 'immoral' and men should have their own wife and women their own husband.
There is no way you can possibly tell me that these above passages are actually implying that homosexual relations are acceptable as per the Bible.
@Kkaos I never said that the Bible promotes homosexuality. By the way I’m not trying to promote it either. I am a lapsed catholic myself but I don’t have anything against homosexuals. All I’m saying is that not all Christian faith practitioners actually abhor homosexuality. If you want to continue this discussion use G@G’s messaging system, I think the asker is getting really tired of getting notifications.
There have been gay and bisexual popes: en.wikipedia.org/.../List_of_sexually_active_popes
The Good Book does NOT condone sexual immorality (which would include homosexuality and bisexuality). So, either you're not a very good Christian or you're not a Christian at all and you're merely being deceptive about it (lying).
Well it all depends how you feel afterwards if you commit a sin and feel bad about doing then your not born again so in that sense you where never really Christian to begin with.
no you can't believe in GOD and be LGBT
cause it means you are stupid
and know nothing about the bible
so what do you suggest a bi person do? abandon God and their love for him?
Can you be christian and a liar? can you be christian and adulterer?
ofcourse you can because everyone is sinful
everyone comes short of the glory of god
You can, bit I'm not sure why you would want to.
what do you mean?
I mean being Christian isn't really worth it.
yes you can but you are not following Gods word
If a person is deliberately not following G-d's commandments, then they are not very Christian, are they? Sure, the first step in Christianity is admitting that we are far from perfect, but living a lifestyle that is blatantly sinful in Biblical terms... that's not a Christian thing.
@BrianMerritt just because you are blantanly sinful doesn't mean they aren't a Christian lets say your a Christian and you lie to somebody blantanly sinfull you are Christian and you slip up and watch porn blantanly sinful doesn't mean they can't be a Christian that mean they are sinning
Right, so they are sinning, which means they are not living by G-d's standards, and that is not the Christian way, because they are not being very Christ-like, are they?
From a Biblical standpoint, homosexuals are the same as drinkers and cheaters and gamblers. When a person repetitively chooses to make sin a part of their lifestyle, they are moving farther away from the standards a Christian would want to strive for.
Now yes, all Christians sin. But... those things are still SINS.
@BrianMerritt AND I AM NOT SAYING THEY ARNTSINS GOSH I am saying just because they are doing that doenst mean they arnt a Christian it just means they are sinning
@BrianMerritt and from your view your saying a rapist is wort then a lie in your eyes yes in gods eyes no in gods eyes sins are sins lying is not worse then killing somebody they are all sins and they are wrong in gods eyes k.. k
No, I didn't say anything about certain sins being worse than others.
I see where you are disagreeing with me. Let me clarify.
In a way, there has only been one true Christian ever. Jesus Christ. Of course, that was back when Christianity was called Judaism, but still.
Yes, followers of Christ sin from time to time even though we should not. They might still call themselves Christians for trying, but, the idea is this: when a person actively chooses a sinful lifestyle, they are not actively choosing a Christ-like lifestyle. Understand? So a homosexual, from a BIBLICAL standpoint, is choosing a sinful lifestyle over the lifestyle that G-d commands we live up to. In other words, they are moving away from following Christ (Christianity) and instead are following their own sinful desires.
I'm sorry, there's just no way around it. These aren't MY views, this is just my understanding of what's in the Tanakh/Bible.
@BrianMerritt ya and i get that but take me for example i am i Christian i go to church i read my bible pray intill this summer some stuff went down and i haven't been praying or reading my bible but i am still a Christian i am just straying and i know that and i am trying to get back to the lord but just because that is happing doesn't mean i am not a Christian
So lately, you've been following Christ less than before. By definition, you are less Christian the less you follow Christ.
@BrianMerritt what like type i guess Christian are you baptis conservative or what
I myself am not deeply Christian. Lately I have been trying to learn more about Christianity/Judaism,, but religion isn't something I thought a lot about for most of my life.
@BrianMerritt ok well the reason I was asking is because of some different ones belive different things
Yes, but the Tanakh hasn't changed much in 4,000 years. Differing interpretations of it are one thing, but the ignoring of certain parts in favor of more convenient beliefs is an entirely different game.
@BrianMerritt the what a whati I don't know what you belive in but I belive in god the son the holy spirit he rose in three days after being crucified he will come pack on day and judge us and the devil was a fallen angle and I read the bible and that is it for religious books... is that what you belive or
I think that those who question Jesus' Messiahood have a point.
You mean like Cristian and Muslim ;-)
No but you can still read the Bi-ble..
Omg I’m too funny
why can’t you be? does that mean if u are a really religious christian and discover you are bi, you have to stop being christian?
