Christians, what is your take on the double creation of light in Genesis?

In the 1st book of the bible God creates light twice, on the 1st day and the 4th day.

Genesis 1:3-5
3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.

Genesis 1:14-19
14 And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so. 16 God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. 17 God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, 18 to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.

It's established that God created day and night on the 1st day but goes on again to create day and night on the 4th. There have been many attempts to explain this but no explanation yet has been truly satisfactory. What are your thoughts

It's a different thing; the creation of light vs the creation of a light source. Obviously, light already had to exist somewhere, or "let there be light" would've been meaningless, as the reply would've been "what is 'light'?".

Which raises a bigger question- to who or what was "let there be light" addressed?

Not exactly, it wasn't just the creation of light as a concept. It also established night and day on earth meaning the source was there from day 1. Then the source with the purpose of establishing night and day was created again on day 4.

As for who it was addressing, it was probably just the universe, I don't think anyone was supposed to hear it, just a verbal command that makes things, although I do find the premise of an omnipotent god, speaking verbally to create things a bit silly

But that's my point: it COULDN'T'VE been the creation of light as an idea; otherwise, it would've been something like "Let there be some stuff so that we can see around here". And the creation on the forth day was just so that time could be kept; night and day was established back at the beginning.

And now I'm once again reminded of how annoyed I am that Fiat never released a model called the Lux.

The explanation is this is a made up story contrived by people who didn't have the understanding of science that most elementary school children have these days. With no stars, there would be no visible light and the earth did not form before the sun. End of.

Light for day = Sun

Light for night = Moon.

Another Light = Stars.

It wasn't created twice. That would make no sense besides the fact it's impossible for God to make blunder. It's basically restating the same event twice as a short summary.

They are denoted as days. Why would day four be a summary of day one? That makes even less sense. Also it's not a summary as the creation of light on day 4 is significantly longer than day one and gives reference to the firmament created on day two. Try again.

The Bible is written like that. It tends to repeat the same events from different perspectives. Book of Kings and Chronicles etc.

If you don't like it then too bad. You're not obligated to accept nor believe the Bible. 🤷‍♂️

It's an inconsistency in the bible dude. It's not a summary, it's not a retelling. It speaks of an event in canonical order.

"And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.

7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.

8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day."

As you can since there is day and night in day two, light was created BEFORE the firmament. Day four shows that he creates light AFTER the firmament. It's impossible to just dismiss this as a "summary"
